Everything about this era/album is so perfect

It was a time to be alive for sure,

she was absolutely everywhere

Boys aged extremely well.

An amazing era. I f love her version of ILRNR

Bombastic Love, Let Me Be, Overprotected (Darkchild Remix), Anticipating, I'm Not a God, Not Yet a Woman

was listening to this again just the other day and i think esp the run from the beginning thru to i love rock n roll is all peak britney, just bop after iconic bop. the second half i used to be less sold on but it's definitely more solid than i'd given it credit for, there's more to it than just a bunch of filler. i even like the backstreet style ballads (tbh i esp like the backstreet style ballads, that's where you take me ftw). you can tell it's a bit of a ragbag of stuff - there's the neptunes songs, the very max style material, the attempts to give her more of a voice in the lyrics - but it does hang together a lot better than you might expect.

as a wider point, i've often thought the run from britney s/t - "i'm not a kid anymore, why won't everyone just stop telling me what to do?!" - to in the zone - "i'm a grown woman now and embarking on my journey of sexual self discovery" - to blackout - "wow is this a kink dungeon?!" - probably tells us a fair bit about britney thru the 00s and is a lot more coherent a path than most careers where the artists nominally had more control over what they were doing

This was peak era Britney

In the zone and blackout were better albums

but those eras had messy interviews and Britney became mysterious

This was the last era where it looked like Britney was happy being a pop star

Im glad Britney went more urban with this because it opened the door for in the zone to happen

I was so used to to Britney teen bubble gum pop I was shocked when I heard I'm slave for you I was not expecting that from her back then

This album also has some very strong pop songs

Anticipating

Overprotected

I'm Not a Girl Not Yet a Woman truly one of her most underrated sings with breathtaking vocals and melody

She really ate making this her only self-titled album, it's the quintessential Britney Spears experience. I remember stealing the cd from my aunt's collection as a kid

One of her best era and bringing back so many great memories of me and my childhood. Miss those days deeply.

It's her most iconic cover and essential britney album. Loved the whole era. The coreography of Slave 4 u, gentleness of Not a girl, not yet a woman, simplicity of it's video, I love r'n'r made me actually love r'n'r. Only single that I don't like, even tho video and song fits perfectly to this era is Boys. I even liked Crossroads back in the day. DWAD tour was amazing, that Baby one more time finale Born 2 make u happy music box performance she was also at peak shape, great body and hair

this era had the best of both worlds; the teen pop Britney and the bridge to In the Zone Britney

The single choices were kind of bad but this is hands down her best teen album. This was peak Britney for sure.

I love Rock n Roll was an awful single choice it's only redeeming quality is that fierce video

The visuals and aesthetic of the era are so gorgeous. She looks stunning in the Boys and ILRNR videos. When people say popstar, this is what I think of.

My only complaint, is that I hate the haircut she has in the DVD of the DWAD tour, otherwise everything is a 10/10. Especially the Stages documentary

A great album that deserved to be a lot more successful. She took more control with that album and it shows.

The only dud on it is I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman. All the other tracks are great.

Not a Girl is cute but I Love Rock n Roll is a nothing burger DarkChild is capable of better

INAGNYAW was made for Crossroads, same with ILRNR cover and initially they wanted to release full album soundtrack in style of Glitter but then they decided to rather release proper 3rd album.

I wish Lonely was single tho
