Mariah would do actual remixes, with new vocal edits, lyrics, and sometimes with a new music video. She would do remixes for clubs with DJs and for radio with features from other artists. So her songs would essentially cover various listeners from pop, r&b and dance.

Most artists/labels commission DJ remixes, do a one off remix with another artist or just release an extended version. But rarely do they ever get to level of involvement that Mariah did. The things is, I think this style of remixing is perfect for the streaming era. It means people will be interested in hearing a different version of the song, and different versions of songs could be in more playlists.

Very few main pop girls have the kind of creative/musical involvement that Mariah did, and of the ones that do, one already makes dance music and the other is intentionally bland.

I'd love for more artists to approach remixes this way, but many don't have the drive to do this.

She literally has the equivalent of a whole second discography of just remixes. That's not even separating them out into the house mixes, the hip-hop mixes, etc.

You could spend hours upon hours just listening to remixes and never once hit something on her actual albums.

The most underrated aspect of her career imo

Her musicality was on full display in her remixes. To take a single song and make 3-4 different versions of it in three different genres and all as new songs required insane creativity and artistry. The Queen of Remixes and the quintessential genre crossover artist as Slant said.

There are very few popular artists today (if any) who have both the creative involvement and the vocals/songwriting/musicality required to pull that off.

I actually just listened to this since it's finally available on streaming, and to say I was SHOOK is a complete understatement. Every remix is basically a different song

These kids barely have enough vocal talent, production skills and songwriting talent to make one version of a good song, let alone 4 different versions.

The 90s remix is a lost art i fear.

Not to mention, her love of living in the studio. Most artists, regardless of talent, don't want to be in the studio afterhours doing 100 different remixes for previously released songs.
