It's truly astounding really that Beyoncé is about to enter her 30th year in the music industry and is still one-upping herself every chance she gets and contributing to the cultural conversation with not only commercial success but wide acclaim, too.

For comparison sake, this would be like (using 30 as a round number, but subtract one if you want accuracy)

  • Diana Ross in 1991

  • Tina Turner in 1990

  • Dionne Warwick in 1992

  • Michael Jackson in 1999

  • Janet Jackson in 2012

  • Prince in 2008

  • Donna Summer in 2004

  • Stevie Wonder in 1993

  • Aretha Franklin in 1990

  • Mariah Carey in 2020

  • Madonna in 2012

  • and so on and so forth

None of this is to say that she's better than them, or they flopped, because I think many of them paved the way for her to be the kind of autonomous artist that allowed her to sustain her career the way she has, and many have faced ageism, but just to point out the very rare position Beyoncé's at in her career.

Yep this is seriously underrated. By both age, and career length - B is in uncharted territory. Mariah, Madonna and Michael Jackson were already way past their creative and commercial peaks by this point. B's continued commercial and critical success is totally unique.

If the album is coming in May, I think it would be a little bit early for her to start teasing the album. I think if she does go, it will be some last minute thing where she just grabs a dress from her closet and does her own glam.

Not the year Madonna released MDNA. Oh that's not...

Wasn't Dangerously in love certified 4x platinum in 2004? If true then it is not believable that it is only 8x platinum eligible. Something just don't seem right.

You think it more than doubled in US sales? Her streaming also isn't carrying her album units that much and you need ALOT of streams to even get another platinum milestone

I really like 6Inch and I really like Energy, it's just that I come back to THE more. It's a mindless bop to me that doesn't require too much attention, yet gets me in a good mood. I like to listen to it in the morning while thinking about cussing people out on the metro. I'm just at peace and a better person listening to it. Here Im handing out a few cents to homeless people. This aint Texas, there aint no hold 'em indeed. Call me Mother Theresa

THE sounds like a commercial song. Break my soul was generic as well. Bey please don't choose a generic ass single for act 3.

I never liked IIWAB, think RTW doesnt have that much replay-value (tho iconic) and already dont listen to BMS as much as I do to THE

Y'all will complain when she puts out a less commercial song lol. Break My Soul and THE were the perfect lead singles.

At this point, is it really a surprise if ur name became synonymous with "surprise"? Id be more shocked if she anounced her attendance tbh

That would make it her fourth year in a row attending the Grammys, wew. She's working for that second AOTY win.

the remix is soooo good, I wish the PONY UP part was 2x longer though, or like BMS and CUFF IT's remixes, the whole song had the new instrumental.

I agree. They advertised the album vibe to a mainstream audience without giving anything at all away. I personally wouldn't care if her leads were flops, but she was right to release these ones at least, in the sense that a lead single is meant to market the work.

I do think she knew that TEXAS HOLD 'EM was kinda generic though and balanced it with 16 CARRIAGES. Another great lead because nothing else on the album is like it, but it pointed to experimentation.

Edited by swissman

I hate the lead singles from act 1 and 2 but loved the surprise of the albums being more experimental than those singles. 16 carriages though is amazing

16 CARRIAGES is crazy because it's like, not my favourite Beyoncé song, and yet somehow I think it's the best song she ever released... the pure directness of it all... the fact that each chorus has 16 "beats"... the way the melody is its own metaphor for the grind she's singing about.

I'm really glad that it was the song playing as she walked up to accept AOTY.
