with all due respect, cowboy carter didnt have "crazy" pulls either as far as production goes.

Honestly, CC is a pretty safe album IMO, but I think the "crazy pulls" for Beyonce was just the album in general, I think the whole thing was a bit out of her normal comfort zone whereas Renaissance had some really experimental sounds, like Pure, Cozy, AUIYM.
