Poppy - 'Empty Hands'

Featured Replies

Well its definitely in my personal top three based on first few listens - though some tracks I do find hard to get through, and it does feel a bit long. I was not really a fan of Zig and Lux though so...

I initially found Negative Spaces to be a bit lukewarm when it came out but it grew quickly on me. This album on the other hand... let's work with new fresh faces for the next record mama

I'm halfway into the album, and it's a big headache....

I really want her next album to return to pop or synthpop.

Her voice is such a pop voice. I like her adventure into metal, but the music is really starting to lack something that she clearly had with pop

Legitimately terrible album (I'm not exaggerating when I say several songs sound AI generated). However Public Domain is a whole BAWP. The first interlude is fine (I forget the name) and Unravel/Time Will Tell are listenable. This could have been a cute EP, but nothing more. Shame she tarnished her nearly flawless discography monkey

what in the self-repeating hell? this sounds like remixes/second takes from negative spaces. gimme something new, queen. something fresh

I couldn't agree more!

It pains me to say this, but Empty Hands is just such a miss. A very unnecessary album and a step in the worst possible direction. Whatever happened to "I never do the same thing twice" and "I don't stick to one genre"?

I was shocked to discover I only enjoyed 2 songs, and wouldn't go out of my way to play either of them (Public Domain and Time Will Tell). I can't believe how wrong everything went with Poppy's creativity and vision as soon as she teamed up with J Fish.

Bland music videos, predictable songs, tired structures, overdone unnecessary screaming and perhaps worst of all - Chat GPT-sounding lyrics that are unrelatable and impersonal.

There were a few times on this album when I was starting to vibe with the song but then these big breakdowns happen and Poppy starts shouting for no reason and all charm was gone in a snap.

I'm devastated. I have no idea what's going on and I pray that she finds her footing again for the next album because this is not it. I will not be revisiting this record.

I'm praying this was just a money grabbing gimmick for her tour with Evanescence or whatever

i didn't mind it but i think the best of negative spaces and a few songs from here (public domain, unravel, Ribs) could've been one longer album. It's clear she just put out all the tracks she worked on after NS album release and was still inspired by this sound, which is fine! But the work isn't as good as NS. The singles are the best tracks, but even then, they're derivative of some of the previous singles from NS she's released and not as memorable.

However as a melodic metalcore poppy fan lol, I still liked it, more than Zig and Poppy Computer. Middle of the road poppy album for me.

6.5/10

Yeah I finished listening to the album and immediately started humming the chorus melodies from Negatives Spaces lol…

Cost of Giving Up is still THAT song.

They're all around us, New Way Out, Have you had enough, Nothing. What an album.

not my favourite Poppy album, but not bad
my onle duds are Wait and Following the Light

I do agree the lyrics are kinda flat in places and
we didn't need so much screaming, right after NS

Let me be your guardian in the eternal battle.. grow up. I srsly think she talked so much **** about the negative experience she had making Zig solely because that one actually required her to make an effort! Ian Kirkpatrick would never put his name on this garbage. Of course she loves making albums like this, this crap is so throwaway & lazy. She's purely selling an aesthetic on this one. Nobody's gagged by the "cutesy blonde girl goes screamo" bit anymore, the schtick is stale. The music at its core is so formulaic, generic & juvenile. Stunned by how far she's fallen since I Disagree. Get Simon Wilcox in the studio NOW

I think she could do a deluxe edition to negative spaces with these songs and work on another one while promoting the deluxe...

Really shame she had few hits with her albums....

I really hope she will return to Zig or am I a girl sound in the next era...

she's never returning to Zig, the critics hated it, the fans hate it and she hates it as well, lol

Thank you!!! God!

Zig was a brilliant album and you could tell she was proud and happy to be promoting it after it came out. I'm 100% sure she's talking **** about Zig now because critics hated it and her label didn't put in enough of an effort to promote it because it was recorded under a different label (Republic). If Zig was a success, she might still be making good music today.

I hope she's satiated with this sound now and her next record will actually be an interesting risk again. No more please! And yes, bring Simon back!

you know what, it has already grown on me cm Metalcore Poppy wins again!

I don't understand what the tea is with Zig. It is my fav post Titanic work from her toofunny3

Edited by stjosephprey4us

this is definitely not on the same level as Godsitive Spaces but it's ok i guess. Unravel remains the best track and even that was a Vital rehash

im quite happy for her that she's been accepted as a metal artist, but im ready for this chapter of her career to be over. it feels like we've been in this post That Poppy half alternative space for so long now and she's changed, but she hasn't grown. and genre isn't the issue.

okay finally listen to it in full and best songs is Unravel, Dying To Forget, Guardian, The Wait, If We're Following The Light & Empty handsjonny2

her first album to chart on the official album charts in Australia, Austria, Germany and the UK, in Australia she's actually in the Top 10 (#7)...

Im sad its been such a negative listening experience on here cause its like a cute 7.5/10 for me.

Ribs is such a standout.
