Why are we treating tweets as something relevant?

Featured Replies

Like... You can use a viral tweet to push any agenda you want. Why are we giving it any meaning when it's obvious it absolutely don't mean **** what people there say or like. Politics, pop girls, doesn't matter the topic, it's just random people liking and posting things and realistically it's an extremely small fraction of the society using it.

Are we? I thought everyone was smart enough to know hit tweets mean nothing.

I'm not sure anymore, i was always hehe hahaing about it but i kinda feel like some people take it as real life

Agreed. And I think ATRL threshold rule is ridiculous; you can find 100k+ people to agree on literally anything.

Furthermore we should be viewing Twitter as platform owned by a Nazi and just not allowing tweets to be shared on ATRL at all IMO. I remember a lot of users being all for that earlier this year after Elon did his Nazi salute and retweeted that post about Hitler not being responsible for the death of 6m jews, but people don't seem to care much anymore. Call me an extremist, and I know that Meta, TikTok, etc have controversial CEOs and there's no ethical consumption under capitalism, but we've got to draw a line in the sand somewhere.

They don't even use viral tweets anymore

They just post some random tweet with 10k and say do you agree?

I got an add blocker app that has several guard and blocking properties which X doesn't allow so I can't go there and I can no longer see tweets embedded here so every time I open a thread here about twitter I can never see what's going on which is a kii

it made me realize how this website is just 90% regurgitating whatever is posted on twitter/x

like the OPs don't even bother going to the original sources or anything for news media or outlets

i think that on a forum where every other thread is basically shots fired in a stan war, it's always going to happen that someone will weaponise a tweet to troll some base or other.

i'd love to expect better of people here but while ATRLers are happy to rise to the weakest bait imaginable, i tend to think it's best to let them get on with it

Tbh twitter is at an all time low

It used to be the best platform years ago

Traffic is low, people are the nastiest too

It's really not relevant at all.

As a whole, the internet is just a tiny minority of the audience, and of all the main forms of social media, Twitter is probably the smallest and the one whose opinion matters the least.

Instagram is the main social for millennials, Facebook for Gen X and Boomers, and TikTok for Gen Z and Alpha. Twitter is not the main social for any age demo.

Opinions on social media in general do not matter at all. The internet is just an outlet for all types of extreme ideologies to exist bc none can be applied to the real world without major pushback.

It's just like those surveys that news sites are always referencing, but nothing I've ever been asked before or took part in. At best, they just highlight opinions that several thousand people are in agreement on. From there, it's arguable that those opinions are shared by more people. It's not a sizable enough number to actually make a difference, though. Just a fun little popcorn metric.
