Jackie (the person; bless her heart) did not deserve to be represented with such a terrible album. There are a few bops but it falls super short in comparison to self titled. Beauty Mole is her worst album. Don't help the fact that she released some of her worst songs right after like Melatonin and Tooted.  Can't stand that Oompa Loompa Body built ***** Easter Dean. Giving Ciara's someone's refried nachos that went bad in the first place. And then we have Theron Thomas who has ruined Ciara's legacy, turning half of her single discography into a kids bop cringe fest.

this is MY opinion so keep it cute!

 

 

1. Made It (not yet heard; no rating) 
2. How We Roll (ft Chris Brown) (8/10) cute bop 
3. Run It Up (ft BossMan Dlow) (2/10) cringey lyrics and trap beat, weird unauthentic vocals 
4. Dance with Me (ft Tyga) (5/10) we've heard this song 20x before in other songs nothing special 
5. BRB (6/10) too repetitive for me and cringey last part, drum and bass beat has potential but goes nowhere 
6. Low Key (6/10) kinda basic and dated but listenable 
7. Type A Party (5/10) acoustic pop is just not Ciara's lane; cute song for a high schooler 
8. Ecstasy (8/10) if lyrics were better and production was a bit more layered and experimental I'd give it a 9 or 10 
9. Wassup (ft Busta Rhymes) (4/10) fake ATL accent that she no longer has, cringey lyrics, elementary bars; good sample wasted, the 4 points go to Busta his verse ate 
10. Drop Your Love (1/10) the worst song I've heard in a long time from any artist. It's like a leftover The Evolution track in the worst way imaginable. This made me crash out, had to take Tylenol 
11. This Right Here (ft Latto ; Jazze Pha) (2/10) cringey lyrics, the song is trying to be So What but feels like a downgrade, Latto brought nothing to the song. Kids bop would even reject. The 5 csquad members will probably eat this up. Jazze Pha peaked in 2007 but his weight clearly didn't. 
12. 2 In Luv (2/20) giving school girl vibes, not a song I want to hear from a nearly 40 year old woman. Basic lyrics and production sounds like it was made by an intern 
13. Forever (ft Lil Baby) (6/10) - sampling B5 was interesting and random af but somewhat worked. It's too cliche for me and just feels like Lil Baby could of been used for a better song 
14. Winning (ft Big Freedia) (6.5/10) -  cringey lyrics but I love this song. It lifts me up and makes me want to twerk a bit but that's all it offers 

 

avg 4.7/10 (waiting on "I Made It".)

 

Some of my ratings could be lower but I'm trying to be nice and consider her "independent status".

i might cry. i was hoping for at least 4 new songs. if thats tracklist we already heard everything and half of the album we had for years

The problem is that her music doesn't really connect with millennials or the older side of Gen Z. The songwriting is lazy, basic and juvenile, which makes it hard to take seriously. It's almost like her music is targeted exclusively at kids born after 2010 or its straight up "corporate"

 

After her 2015 album, I stopped taking a lot of her music serious tbh, and I think she did too

 

There literally is no growth in the music at all

I don't think her music connects with anyone (if you ask me) other than her few "ride or die" fans. Why? Because like I have mentioned in my past Base post….she's mixed her religion, corporate and motherhood lingo into her lyrics and artist persona so many times that people don't see her as this ATL girl anymore. So when she taps into that with her old accent and ATL lingo it feels unauthentic. People see right through that especially people from Atlanta. 
 

You know when you go to church and they grab whatever's current in music but flip the lyrics to make it a Christian song? That's what her music sounds like in a way. For example; Wassup; "and I'm prayed up that's why she be so godly". Cringe. Also like "Winning", which almost sounds like a gospel song in certain moments when it's supposed to be this ratchet twerk song. Nothing wrong with Gospel but Top 40 radio doesn't care about gospel and also you're literally making a twerk song????? 

 

The cursing she does here and there in her songs also surprisingly doesn't help. Then there's moments when she holds back the word and it just sounds so cringe. Either you curse or you don't. It just  sounds so corny when she holds back almost like she's trying to protect a non existent innocence. Like woman you are near damn 40 you are allowed to CUSS. You are CIARA. Even Taylor Swift is cursing with her full chest now. 

There's  also a lot of juveline themes in her music. A lot of her songs have the mind and spirit of a teenager girl trapped in a 40 year old woman's body. "2 in Luv" and "Type a Party" are good examples. No grown woman is talking about waiting for a text back, having a little crush or throwing a party. It's so Nickelodeon. How We Roll is very much that too but I think the Chris Brown Ciara link up moment is what saves the aura of the song. 

 

But that's just lyrical content. Then you have her vocals which I've noticed have changed dramatically from her last album to this one. Idk how to put it but it almost sounds like she lost her voice but didn't fully get it back. Her voice sounds strained and she seems to want to sing so fast that it almost sounds like she's singing ahead of the beat. She favors going for a higher pitch in notes but it sounds squeaky. It's like they are trying to make her sound as feminine and youthful as possible but once again it just doesn't feel authentic and it doesn't compliment her vocal style. We've seen Ciara sing chest and lower pitch and that's when her voice shines. 
 

Lastly, then you have the productions. A lot of her beats sound like mini me versions of her bigger songs. "This Right Here"  and "Dance With Me" are good examples. With the exception of "Low" a lot of her production feels predictable or like reheated nachos from another artist. For example "Run It Up" sounds like a song you'll hear on a football video game menu track. Like it was specifically made for that Instrumentally. Vocals and lyrics are just cringe and sound forced.

i agree with @ciara and @KING ACE although i love myself was published after 2015 so you are not completely accurate that all her music was bad after that mark. (yes ill stan that song till i die lol)

 

i dont connect with her anymore either because it looks like she doesnt care anymore about music. if all your interviews are about your kids and husband you are a housewife. i just yesterday saw mgk interview and last time i checked hes a dad and his gf (megan fox) is even more famous than rusel willson and still didnt hear a word about them, but all about his music. if ciara doesnt speak on music she legit doesnt care and we should accept. i have no idea why shes releasing the album. like i said its disrespect but for her i guess quick cash grab to go fund that rum or something. 

She could do all this and not tack on the Summer Walker collab? K

The physicals have been done for months and probably why she's selling vinyl copies for $12. Those "deluxe" tracks are not on them.

I agree, dont get me wrong.....I love her relationship with her husband and family. But she doesn't need to mention her man and kids in almost every interview. It makes a lot of her press feel repetitive, dull, and honestly a chore to sit through. She rarely dives into anything truly interesting about her career or music unless the interviewer specifically presses her on it, and the talking points have just become stale.

The biggest problem, though, is that the music simply isn't strong, and the marketing behind it hasn't been effective either

 

Anyways, It feels like she and the general public are living in two completely different worlds, she doesn't seem to take in any real feedback, almost as if she's operating in a bubble and listening to no one. That disconnect only makes the gap between her and the audience grow wider
