Lead Single: DWAS or Disease?

Featured Replies

What do you count as the lead single from MAYHEM; Disease or Die With A Smile.

Second question is what is the canon/official answer, and what proof do you have to back up your answer?

According to Gaga: Disease

Technically: DWAS

How is it technically is what I am struggling to understand, isn't it just a bonus track that also happened to be a single/collab previously. Similar to midnight ride and edge of Saturday night on Tension II by Kylie?

If you already have the answer for your own question then why did you even post the thread

A lead single (or first single)[1][2] is the first single to be released from a studio album by an artist or a band,

EOSN isn't Kylie's song primarily so it's different, Gaga is the main credit of DWAS and going by album manufacture timeframes it was always going to be on the album, so it's not like it was a final minute change.

I don't have the answer I'm genuinely asking since I have seen both answers for both questions. I've seen people say DWAS and Disease both are the literal lead but I've also seen them both said as the spiritual lead.

Not this tiring conversation again :deadbanana4:

It's a LADY GAGA song, taken from HER album Mayhem! It became the lead single after the overwhelming response for the song so she included on the album - and rightfully so, since she's the first credited artist, the video is on her channel and was distributed through her label, Interscope.

Abracadabra :agaycatabra:

but in reality, does it really matter? DWAS is the smasha, and Disease seems like a great introduction to the soul and the aesthetics of the record. Mother Monster truly has The_best_of_both_worlds.mp3

In this case, that user already told you. Technically, it's Die With a Smile. The song is not a bonus track because it's available on every single version of the album. The real bonus tracks are titled "Kill for a Love" and "Can't Stop the High" and neither are singles. Hope it helps!

disease is a promo single and DWAS is not on my MAYHEM

This is basically a "are you a success stan or not" type of question.

DWAS was released in August as a standalone Bruno Mars single. Yes, Gaga's record published it, just like Rosé's published APT and Sexy Red's published their collaboration too.

Lady Gaga herself called Disease the lead single and when she got asked in an interview if she would add DWAS to Mayhem, she answered by saying yes and that she was seeing it as "the missing piece" her album needed.

It's a standalone collaboration that smashed and was basically added to the album to boost its stats. Anyone pretending that Disease is a second single is a stan success who only cares about numbers and charts, and by the way Disease and Abracadabra are both more interesting than DWAS.

Which songs are on the album?

And which song got released first?

There you have your answer.

Disease is the lead single

DWAS was tacked on because it was too successful NOT to have it on the album

It was Disease... until it became Die With A Smile. Keep in mind that the tracklist was still in flux when she said that Disease was the lead. The most important thing is that the first tracklist we saw included Die With A Smile. Which is still her song. And was extremely successful. Why shouldn't she add it?

Single #1 -- Die With A Smile

Single #2 -- Disease

Single #3 -- Abracadabra

According to Lady Gaga herself:

lead single: Disease

Die with A Smile was later on included on the album despite initially being a stand-alone single. Lady Gaga revealed during the Harlequin/Joker 2 promo run in September 2024 that Die With A Smile was in fact a standalone single. In December she revealed it would be included on Mayhem (probably because it would be a waste to not include such a big hit on an album)

Let's stop rewriting history and have a smart day!

It was Disease originally. Now it's Die With A Smile. As I said in my post above, the tracklist had not been announced at the time of her comments, so things were subject to change.
