You started wrong watching the anime. The anime is terrible and has away too many filler scenes in the middle of the canon episodes what makes the pacing even worse. You should've read the manga instead.

 

Regardless, even the manga was only good until a certain point, nowdays Its pure cash grab followed by the nostalgic fans

 

And yes, Hunter x Hunter is miles better

The current ones definitely won't. I still personally believe that 5th gen(at least for the girls) hasn't started or that it might barely be starting now with Gnarly and Gabriela. Generations used to be something that fans decided specifically based on the popularity of kpop, so all these companies claiming 5th gen when their little girls don't perform up to standards feels like an excuse.
