The report linked from KOMCA also breaks down the market shares of U.S., U.K., Germany and Japan markets. Apple Music appears and is reported on all of them, but does not appear in Korean market share analysis, among the major service providers.

Again, no one disputed that Melon is no longer the most popular platform or losing popularity. Yet, by default, a platform cannot be "dead" if it is still the #2 platform, with a higher share of the market than all other services except YouTube Music and one of the largest libraries in Korea.

You criticized others for using Melon as a metric, stating that Apple Music is more popular and one of the two "most representative" platforms, but have provided no evidence to substantiate this, beyond "your experience".

When a song is truly popular in Korea, the #1 on YouTube and Melon typically aligns and this is also important for iChart rankings, which would otherwise be functionally useless. If, as you suggest, Melon is wildly inaccurate regarding popularity of songs, iChart perfect all kills would be virtually impossible to attain and there would be constant discrepancies. Yet, there are plenty of examples that when a song truly smashes domestically, YouTube, Melon, Genie and FLO all tend to align on the #1 song. In fact, the most problematic and inaccurate chart is usually Bugs.

It's interesting that you've used the word "dense" here, when I've provided you with evidenced explanations for everything I've said, whilst all you've really provided are anecdotal rants that you and your friends don't use Melon because it's for "otaku losers" and "dead". :michael:

Please feel free to provide the evidence and data to support what you are saying about Apple Music though, it would be interesting to see if and how things are changing.

you keep obsessing over the apple music comment when i only used it as a reference for the youtube music charts. it's not that difficult to understand :rip:

apple music is a smaller sample of youtube music's demographic and i used it as a reference because it updates in realtime whereas youtube updates once a week

melon's demographic is more fanbase driven which is why there's bts songs from last decade nearly charting in the top 50 and a bunch of plave songs my god :skull:

yea the top 10 is usually aligned but the rest of the top 100 is a huge mess and songs that are actually popular and playing everywhere don't chart at all whereas they chart on youtube music (and on apple music at similar positions which is why i used it as a reference before youtube updates)

girl i literally said in my first post that it was too bad spotify was filled with bts' streaming farms. their streams make ZERO sense :rip:

spotify is still going to become korea's second biggest platform next year

zack's graph made me realize it gained 200K more users just last month lmao

They really are SM's weakest dancers when you think about it.

I think f(x) and aespa are weaker than them in terms of dancing.

Red Velvet's choreographies aren't a good measure to showcase Seulgi and Irene's talent.

I'm not obsessing over anything, it's just that you criticized people whilst making unsubstantiated claims, so I was just trying to get to the facts. However, you haven't provided any reputable evidence despite multiple replies now.

In any case, since you have concurred that Melon typically aligns with YouTube and other charts on what is most popular in Korea, the ultimate conclusion from all this is that, whilst Melon is losing popularity and is no longer the most popular platform, your original statements that it is "dead" and "not representative of what is actually popular" can be disproved at this moment in time, therefore meaning that, currently it is not wrong to consider it a viable and valid metric of what is popular in Korea.

I'm not a fan of their music, but they are talented and have the star factor, so It's good to see their songs are clicking with a lot of people and have so much hype.

I think it's true that (with the exception of FMR), post Queendom, SM seemed to give RV more generic choreographies which don't always show their full strengths.

SEULGI is clearly the best dancer by far, followed by IRENE, but all members have a good standard of dancing. More evidence of this is how impressive Wendy looked in GOT The Beat's performances, even though she takes the main vocal role in RV...I think it's definitely more a case of RV's routines sometimes not allowing enough opportunities for the members to really show their range as dancers.

Ok I'll bite.

I just tried listen to these two tracks and they are insufferable. Not just the music but the visuals and the choreo too. An all around MESS. They could dance in front of me and I wouldn't know a thing. Sorry to these girls.

You will NEVER know the feeling of a ?Muses comeback. The rush of not knowing who made the cut, who got the chop, who is this new girl, and how many members are there now? Was it EVER NINE MUSES TO BEGIN WITH??!!

And at the end of the day, it didn't even matter because the song and visuals were a SERVE, regardless of how many muses there were.

style is literally in the top 5 of most viewed music videos on youtube korea right now which is identical to the apple music charts while the song is N/A on melon  :deadbanana4:

yall are just arguing to argue when there's literally nothing to argue to begin with skdkldsflkss

You rarely see idols/companies bragging about #1 on YouTube meanwhile even a top 10 on melon means a lot of for them. :celestial3:

nah. i was talking about style entering the top 5 on apple music and i said "youtube music will follow soon" once the charts update

style is now top 5 on the daily youtube charts which is yet another indication of the song is having success and that it will be high on the official youtube music charts

however the song isn't even top 100 on melon

another funny example is idle's new song. i wouldn't call it a mega smash, but i still hear it in public, it was playing in the clubs last weekend, people know the song... it's sitting in the top 50 on youtube music but it's not charting on melon

same for gnarly. even lady gaga's abracadabra was a hit in korea, it charted high on youtube music (and apple music too! :fan:) but never charted on melon. die with a smile smashed on youtube music (and literally everywhere else on earth) for weeks while not charting on melon at all. it appeared on melon way later.

there's so many cases like this so YES, i don't consider melon to be reliable anymore when arguing about what's actually popular in real life with the GP because the GP is moving on from it. while it still has millions of users (despite songs having terrible uls lmfao), it's clear that its demographic and its charts doesn't represent the GP anymore so i yes, i don't understand the constant obsession with melon when songs that are actually popular in real life barely appear in the top 100 while decade old songs that aren't charting on other platforms are still hovering around the top 50 :skull:

i'm also pretty sure there were many recent viral japanese songs that hit big in korea that never even charted on melon despite smashing on youtube music and other platforms

Purpose kinda clears. Here I Am, Spark, Love You Like Crazy, LOL, Better Babe, Wine, City Love, Gravity... all these classics :jonny5:

SM (and their stylist) should be embarrassed for having H2H perform in these outfits

This is so Tim Burton and Edward Gorey coded, Lee Haein we love you! :jonnycat:

Aww she's so happy^^

To V: " Personally to V himself, I wanted to say thank you. I wanted to say that I have extreme gratitude for you highlighting my music and recommending it during pride month." To Army: "I woke up to a bunch of comments and DMs from the BTS Army because V from BTS shared my music in his live. Um, I'm still processing it. But I wanted to come on here and say thank you to everyone for supporting me and my music under his recommendation"
