Crazy to think 10 years ago the 2nd gen girlies had no problem thriving with solo debuts and comebacks a new generation started up, but nowadays 3rd gen can't reap those same blessings because 4th gen is huge but far from over and 5th gen is prematurely here too. Like if you weren't a big 3 group you're doomed to acting, being an anniversary act or forever nugu

Companies try to replicate idols (making a new jennie/irene/yoona), and the market is already saturated at it is. Those new idols are simply not that interesting to have a solo debut, they work better in a group, and that's ok.

Sad part is this degree of cvnt from an idol nowadays would receive a lot of backlash; the BP girls could get away with it due to being more western focused/popular but anyone else would be cancelled before promotions are over

Yeah I've noticed that even when groups have designated 'IT girls' they don't care to branch out aside from MC gigs and CFs. The way miss A's fallout truly has a lasting impact on the industry, we probably won't see 4th gen really push soloists until it's nearing the end of their contracts ala Yeji and once their junior group gets up off the ground

 

Like I'm surprised Soyeon hasn't made a big comeback with a full album, but it's clear she enjoys a group dynamic more. Plus news of her producing a group under P-Nation has me intrigued; that new Cube contract went crazy I fear

i'm glad that sm gave aespa solo activites and opportunities to grow solo wise.

not everyone can be blackpink or aespa and have solo hits with all members being relevent  Companies are too scared and love to stick to their basic formula.

 

even starship was smart to push wonyoung/yujin simultaneously, and giving rei full control of their tiktok account  can't say the same for other groups.
