For whatever reason Taylor Swift has existed as a vessel for people to project viewpoints onto in mass.  She has been a lightning rod for conversation since 2009.  Love her or hate her, people are paying attention and talking about her.  

Of course, that's why she causes such a conversation and frenzy anywhere she goes and with anything she does.
