Yepp. No one’s trying to say tiktok deserves the credit (at least not me) but it’s the #1 form of exposure for an artist right now as the top social media platform. Which explains her big spike between even 2020/2021 to today in streaming power

 

and though every single artist has equal access to tiktok and all their tracks uploaded to it, Lana is different because she has the kind of quality and artistry the children connect to in huge numbers  investing in her artistry and not pandering to commercial trends paid off in the long run basically

500K vinyl sales this year. Given the price of Vinyls that's equivalent to 1 million pure sales.

I’ve thought of this before. Lana makes background music. When I watch TikTok lives like Terri Joe it’s common for people to play her songs while they talk over it. Her music is so sleepy and quiet. It makes sense for background music to get more streams than LOUD in your face music. Some people make main event music, others make sleep time hits. And yes a song can be upbeat and still be a sleep time hit. 
 

Think Renaissance. You can’t play that album while doing homework. It’s a distraction. You only play it when that album is your main focus.

Yes Lana, yes siestas.

Lana was actually one of the biggest female artists during Spotify's earlier years too. If I remember correctly she was like the second most streamed female artist in 2013/2014 behind Rihanna. Her popularity declined there over the years and then went back up when the younger generation discovered/rediscovered her music.

I don't deny that nostalgia, free TikTok promo, and Tayna helped her out this year

 

But regardless, I genuinely always knew/believed the pendulum was always going to swing in the other direction at some point. She was way too trashed with BTD, kept releasing magnificent albums, and people have become more analytical when consuming artists. She was always owed and was always going to get her flowers.

 

Also I want to kindly point out that those are male lead songs! Lana and Melanie  are the most "successful" of the Tumblr girls, and nostalgia cannot do the same wonders for the other girls considered apart of that era at this present time. 

 

It's impact, it's influence, it's a legacy, it's talent, it's quality

It’s because she’s so irrelevant. I promise if I didn’t have twitter or use this site I’d have no idea who she was. When your music is THAT popular you’d expect geepee (me) to be able to name a few songs or an album. I can name 3 and 2 of those are major collabs.
