TRF. Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Wait I missed Amaarae winning Best New Artist more than deserved!!! Same with SZA! Although sad Kelela didn't win anything maybe the RAVE:n remix album will snatch something next year... or not
NOW Posted February 4 Posted February 4 6 hours ago, NOW said: Once upon a time, there was an infamous ATRL thread simply known as “Stand Your Ground.” Stans would enter it with the intent to defend against any and all shade, insults, and criticism that was hurled towards their fave. Things would get out of control and fighting words were exchanged in the heat of battle. However, most would return the very next day for another round (“Another day, another drama” like our beloved pop princesses have said). Today, we are honoring an artist whose career has very much followed the textbook example of standing your ground without any compromise. Since the beginning, she experienced lots of criticism and suffered from countless rumors and conspiracies that would shake even the toughest of souls and discourage them from stepping foot onstage ever again. That didn’t stop this artist though. On the contrary, she managed to turn even more inward to figure out who she was and how she wanted to present that in front of a cruel world that was constantly casting doubt upon her. Within the first seconds that one of her records begins playing, you instantly know who it is that is singing. The voice, the lyrics, and the imagery: It’s a signature she’s refined for over a decade and has become a style not just of her own, but something referenced by her many admirers that now count her as a source of inspiration. From the seminal Born to Die to the transcendent Paradise… From the storm clouds of Ultraviolence leading into the voyeuristic Honeymoon… From the hippy sentiment of Lust for Life blossoming into the watershed heights of Norman ******* Rockwell!… We’ve seen her shift in ways that always felt authentic to her during those eras. The last few albums that came out this decade have felt like several victory laps for a woman who has strived to be taken seriously for the majority of her career. Luckily, for those of us who have been following her for a while, it is starting to feel like the tide has turned and that the general public has finally been catching up to her sprawling catalog of classics. Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present this year’s ATRL Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award to the one and only…Miss Elizabeth Woolridge Grant AKA Lana Del Rey! 8 hours ago, supaspaz said: BEST ALTERNATIVE MUSIC ALBUM And In the Darkness, Hearts Aglow Weyes Blood Desire, I Want to Turn Into You Caroline Polachek Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd Lana Del Rey Fountain Baby Amaarae This Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We Mitski And the ATRL Grammy goes to... Would have loved to see "Contact" get some love, and of course, I'm always here for Superstar T. But it was going to be tough for them with SZA's big year.
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted February 4 Author ATRL Moderator Posted February 4 Actually, if anyone has thoughts about why participation was down so much this year and how I can improve for next year to address that, I'm definitely open to your suggestions!

ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted February 4 Author ATRL Moderator Posted February 4 Not too much of a contest on the predictions this year. @Luckitty correctly predicted 12 winners. @brokee got 17 right. So did @wehavetostan, plus the one he already knew because he was presenting. In the tiebreaker, @brokee and @wehavetostan were both far too optimistic about how quickly I would be able to get through the ceremony, but @brokee was closer. So congratulations to @brokee! Message me if you'd like to discuss a prize. 1

I'm not sure honestly, it could be because there's no passion for any of the music released in 2023 as for the voting it could be because some people are lazy and don't want to type a lot as for the live ceremony i might be wrong but it could be because of timezones, when it started it was very late in the evening or morning in most non American countries
cloudbusting Posted February 4 Posted February 4 2 hours ago, supaspaz said: Actually, if anyone has thoughts about why participation was down so much this year and how I can improve for next year to address that, I'm definitely open to your suggestions! maybe gathering a list of interested parties ahead of nominations/voting? that way they can be mentioned when the threads are up just in case they scroll by/forget. unless that's already a thing and i just missed it i always tell myself i'm going to participate and end up largely stuck in my usual base threads instead - maybe others are the same and could use that more direct reminder.
Ken Lee Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Thank you to everyone that put work into this (especially @supaspaz of course)! Sorry I couldn't join/participate live due to unforeseen circumstances. Kylene winning Record was so welcomely random
