trashy ui, association with facebook/zuckerberg, no official ipad app (only sketchy 3rd party ones), being forced to expose your phone number (no username support), ugly app icon

 

with better and free messaging apps out there, is there no excuse for using whatsapp?

Yes tbh. It's kind of gross how the world continues making Facebook apps the standard when there's literally plenty of other options Signal, Telegram, etc.  

 

My distant family overseas asked me to download that ugly app and I just deleted it after a couple days because I am not having a whole app to talk to 2 people.  It'll be cute when EU forces all messaging apps have RCS and interoperability.
