Gaga has been lauded as the Madonna of our generation since her debut. But given the trajectory of her career in the last 5-10 years, it seems like she is mimicking more of a Cher-like career.

Think about it, both have: Handful of iconic hits and classics, undisputed fashion looks and close collaboration with a designer (Bob x Nicola), and iconic transitions to film and iconic roles that were well received.

Is Gaga more of a Cher than a Madonna? If not, who is she?

She’s a mix between Madonna and Judy Garland if we’re drawing a comparison like this.

I've been looking for this. where it is? :celestial5:

Cher was way before my time but I know she at least has Believe and If I Could Turn Back Time which are definite classics, and I'm sure she has hits and classics from her time with Sonny & Cher.

Her "Believe" moment coming in 2038 :clap3:

I definitely see her remaining a pop culture staple and garnering hits 10-20 years from now. I would love her to have a moment like Believe or even Flowers, just an undeniable smash hit like that, in this stage of her career would be cool to see.

I know we had it with Shallow and to a lesser extent ROM, but it would be nice to see it come out of a solo LP.

People focus on Madonna, Cyndi, Cher and Streisand, but Judy is also similar to Gaga:

Now I'm an OGH sometimes too but you cannot deny PF, BR and BTW as classics.

Also, her run of singles for The Fame-The Fame Monster is iconic in its own right, specifically JD, Paparazzi, Telephone, Alejandro. Her glory days are and will be remembered.

Don't forget this timeless gem :gaycat2:

She wishes.

This generations Bette Midler is possibly the closest, but Bette is funny, has personality and can act so there’s also that.

Love Cher but Gaga's "imperial era" came much earlier in her career and was also measurably way bigger. She's also already pulled bigger numbers at the box office as a leading actress already and it's been less than 5 years. I also doubt Gaga will be in the game anywhere near as long as Cher has been.

Gaga's reached a point in her career where I think we can just start calling her the first Lady Gaga and not the next x.

I like Cher but she was never musically consistent. She had a moment with Sonny in the mid-60's, saw a bunch of solo success in the early to mid-70's, and then sort of faded musically till the late 80's.

Gaga's never left the musical radar and even when she's underperformed, she still scored hits.

Gaga's career seems more like Barbra's to me.

yes, which makes Lady Starlight this generation's Sonny

One could argue that she is but I can also see why people would disagree. She's closer to Cher than to Madonna though.

She's more similar to Madonna imo.

Miley is more like Cher.
