maybe they released bir as a promo single first to prepare the fans and the gp for get him back so that the switch in sound from the 1st to 2nd single wouldn't be too jarring

Geffen is kinda messing up these last weeks. Multiple single pushes by the same artist rarely work out well. Especially just before the album. I hope they wont abandon the era after album release as a result.

Releasing BIR never made sense if she was going to release this today.  You can’t release promo singles if you are as big as her a couple weeks before album launch.
