When we talk about talents or skill, ATRL only sees songwriting, dancing or vocals as worthwhile talents.

 

But imo the eye and mind for good visuals, ranging from videos, photoshoots, stage design etc. should be regarded as a skill. Even if these are assembled by a team, it takes a good eye and a knack for this to understand what makes for a good visual experience. Not all artists are able to pull this off and I notice especially with Beyoncé that she’s underrecognized in this regard.

 

Please refrain ‘anyone can do that’ answers in this thread. Discuss!

they are not directors they are performers and if a artist had to do it on their own NOTHING would be accomplished  there’s an army of people behind our stars and they deserve that credit period

It has everything to do with the artist. It’s the artist interest in certain visual styles that make those armies of people come together to execute it

Because people are either too concerned with good lyrics or good production and don’t give enough credit to how much effort good visuals come by. It’s an art within itself honestly. I applaud artists who take the time and effort to ensure that the visuals are up to par with the music. You can tell which ones care and which ones don’t!

I feel it depends on what you see as talent. 
I agree that being a visual is a talent because you can’t become one. You either are photogenic or telegenic or you are not. 
 

As for the value of the talent it really depends on what a person values in an artist. Is it creativity, is it stage presence, dancing or singing? The variety of pop stars shows that each of us has different values.

Okay if Billie Eilish told her team she wants a “dark” theme vs Olivia Rodrigo telling her team the same exact thing how exactly could we establish the artists “skill” in visuals if they are asking for the same thing  it’s just a team of different creative directors. 
 

unkess they are behind the camera or listed as a director they have absolutely nothing to do with the execution. NOTHING

They are. The thing is very little artists are actually visual artists these days and the ones that are are more underground. Mainstream artists are just not really serving anything noteworthy visually these days.

I think it depends on how involved the artist is with the visuals. If they are, it should be recognized. If they're not, then it's irrelevant.

 

I do think visuals are extremely important. One of the things I love about my fave the most is how incredible his videography is and how cohesive and distinctive his eras are.

People understimate how much a music video or performance affects your opinion about a song

To me artist who are strong on visuals care deeply about it you can tell which one are they like Gaga, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy, Taylor, cardi b. etc deliver strong visuals and imo they are talented at it. 
 

other girls serve very minimalist visuals or have no talent for it like Selena, Ariana, nicki, etc. a lot of male artist. 
 

I do agree with you that visuals should be seen a talent.

Artists are not so much responsible for their visuals, I mean most of the time we don’t know how much they are contributing to them so what is there to discuss here

Madonna during the late 80s / 90s is unmatched when it comes to art direction and Gaga 2008 - 2013 was a POWERHOUSE. Her worldbuilding and storytelling through her MVs was so impressive

they knew their fave could never match the Bad Romance video 

 

for real, music videos have historically been such a cool/integral part of modern pop music, it sucks that people don't care about them as much these days

Cause they are basic and have no taste for visuals. I mean, they like Taylor Swift's CGI videos and her tour production...  

It 100% used to be, but the stans that have flooded this site in recent years are stans of girls who can't serve decent visuals so

because certain fanbases want to pretend like visuals aren't important in an attempt to negate artists like Gaga and Beyonce 

It is recognized when the visuals are groundbreaking, not just good.  Bjork is always praised not only as a music genius, but also for creating the best MVs ever, like this lesbian masterpice:

 

 

 

 

Madonna was also known as queen of music videos  at her peak.

 

Alternative acts like FKA Twigs and Sevdaliza  are known for amazing  MVs and photoshoots.
