Should we bring lipsyncing back?

Today, it’s frowned upon to lip sync and even have backing vocals at times. Should we revolt and bring back acceptable lip syncing?  Honestly I’d rather a lip synced performance over a half flop live vocal

i'd rather watch a mid live performance than a lip synced one, especially if i'm paying money

if you’re doing impressive/complicated choreo sure, otherwise I’ll always prefer at least the backing vocal + live combo

It’s always been frowned upon only difference is we had people with talent back then and today we have “influencers”

Kind of if they can entertain us like this:

This is the only way I’m accepting lipsync. You HAVE to have this stage presence, choreo, and charisma to be able to compensate.

Depends. For TV performances, I do not mind lip syncing as the goal is to present a "perfect" product. For concerts, no.

But there are some exceptions; heavy backing tracks can be used if, and only if, you are dancing a lot.

And this is my all time favorite performance of Britney EVER. The complex of the choreo is insane. :jonny5:

Pre-recorder live vocals with dancing should be the standard

I'm crying at that Rachel Stevens performance in the OP :rip: It was so blatant, she really didn't give a **** :deadbanana2:

OT: Did it ever go away?

If you as a professional singer are not able to deliver a half-decent vocal performance to your song at all times then to me you don't have the skills to be a professional singer and should find something else to do. Obviously backing tracks can be used if someone is doing heavy choreo or using props because we are talking about popstars and not indie musicians but pressing play on the album track and going on stage is a no-no in my eyes.

And yes I know Beyoncé has done that in the past but she doesn't lipsync half as much as ATRL says she does.

Hmm but doesn’t it tickle you guys knowing she could still sound ok and keep the same level of dance - if could hear her live in some spots and have a loud backing track all the way?

At points in her vegas residency my fav woulda benefitted from a louder backtrack or lower mic so maybe. I think it's about finding a balance that allows you to be a well-rounded entertainer. Peak Britney or 2013-now Bey are masters of knowing when they should or shouldn't be relying on their microphone, that balance is different for every entertainer though.

Kpop acts in general are better at knowing when to lip vs prerecord vs sing live vs use fx on vocals, but they also are working in an industry where being manufactured and minimally talented is the baseline and anything above that is a plus, which is kinda the opposite of here where it seems everybody needs to prove themselves.

Yes and bring K-POP artist development into the States (albeit less severe and not with slave contracts)

They’re her biggest fans. They have to mention her in every thread or they explode

OT: I can name a lot of people today that should be lipping

Those two working overtime without getting paid is cute, wait for @Power love and then we have it. Larry should hire them to promo her next album. :giraffe:
