Honestly, the start of Louisa's career post X Factor was so promising. For the first time they let go of the outdated system of making the winner wait almost a year to release any music, and instead got her a collaboration with one of the hottest UK acts at the time on a song that became a genuine summer hit. I really don't understand how they then went on to fumble the bag so hard

It made no noise & it was hyped up! It was like nobody cared she returned. The video was also terrible. It bomb hard! Such a shame because it killed the era. Terrible single choices.

To be fair, that 3rd solo era was right at the tail end of the UK digital sales era and beginning of the streaming era (I think Crazy Stupid Love is one of the first songs to go #1 with streaming incorporated into the UK singles chart). By the time this started in the late 2018, it was a completely different marketplace.

One of her best ever lead singles and people paid it dust. It's BS when you consider that ABCDEFU, good 4 u, Happier Than Ever, Mood and other songs basically opened the door for Avril's sound to creep back in, and this deserved to smash alongside all of them. Instead, radio decided to play Tate McRae, Jax, Leah Kate and other TikTok acts instead

 

Avril may have been in her late 30s here but given that Beyonce smashed with Renaissance and Taylor smashed with Midnights, AND plenty of people in their 30s and 40s are smashing hard right now or being successful, there's no reason Avril couldn't have gotten a proper comeback era.

Avril released this at a terrible time. Literally right as the holidays kicked in & nobody was checking for new music. I think if she released in January or February it would’ve done miles better especially if marketed as a return to original sound.

This was a huge bop and her first single in 8 years, but did nothing on the charts. It was a club hit in the US, but besides that didn't chart anywhere at all.
