Tinashe's Joyride turns 5 years old

Time flies...at one point, it seemed like this album would never see the light of day, but Tinashe was finally able to get this album out (so that she could finally move on to the following era). RCA invested (somewhat) in three singles to push the album:

The *official* lead single:

The promo single with a vertical music video:

And the Spring/Summer bop with rent-a-rapper features (no shade to Ty Dollar $ign bc he fits perfectly on this song):

The album contains what some could argue as the biggest missed single opportunity of her career (thus far):

And of course the unexpected collaboration that turned out to be an album highlight:

The mixtape leftover she turned into a masterpiece:

The fan favorite from the moment she performed it on the Joyride tour:

The exquisite interlude that would've been a highlight had she not chopped it up:

The title track that had almost as much drama behind it as the album rollout:

The gorgeous ballad closer that remains one of her most underrated songs to date:

The song no one talks about despite it being one the most unique song on the album:

Let's celebrate Tinashe's triumph in releasing this album. It may not be on the same tier as her other projects, but for an album that had so much label inference, she managed to put out a skipless album, even though, it may be considered her least cohesive body of work.

Her worst album still is better than many other girls albums

but really it is a big example of how a label can hinder an artists vision and sound

I remember forcing myself to listen her album just bc she appeared in Slumber Party lmao
Stuck With Me is cute btw

RCA is known for doing this to literally everybody.

True.

label interference definitely hindered this, but the strong cuts are still incredible

preach!!

April 13th will always remain a big date in my books, if T managed to release Joyride after everything, then nothin's impossible!

Definitely far from her best, but let's not do the most - it still had some cute moments!

I mean…besides Me So Bad, what else could be considered a skip?

Whew, what a moment in time. You really just had to be there. So glad she made it through the dungeon that is RCA and went to release some of her best projects to date. Truly a made me ride for her as a stan despite the long wait and many reboots up until release.

Still fuming at Superlove being severely mishandled, always used to wonder about the old Joyride tracklists but I'm glad the album finally saw the light of day

HBD :clap3: Even at her worst she gave us career highlights like No Contest :giraffe:

To think it was supposed to be released in 2015 or 2016 and she went through HELL, but never gave up.

Ooh La La is my FAVORITE song by Tinashe and as @crf13 wrote, it was the biggest missed opportunity for a hit! But Joyride gave me that song and I'll always be grateful for it! :clap3:

Ranking the songs in order from my favorite to my least favorite.

Kinda wishing we'd have gotten the Player/Superlove/Flame album instead but this album's 1st half slaps as equally  She NEEDS to put LOVE on streaming though!

Daily reminder that Fires and Flames SOTY :jonnycat::jonnycat:

Amazing album!

As an album, it feels a bit all over the place, but there are a lot of top-tier (Ooh La La, He Don't Want It, No Contest) and fun (Faded Love, Superlove, No Drama) Tinashe cuts here :celestial5:

They kinda ruined the album version of Joyride though :chick1:

Anything Goes should have made the album btw!

PREACH! Great highs and still has her signature sound even when muddled by the label interference.

The disappointment I felt with this album. It sounded a mess.

No Drama and Ooh La La are safe from elimination, the rest can go.

No Drama above No Contest, He Don’t Want It, or Fires & Flames? :toofunny3:

Easily and in that order.

i actually really loved this album. Ooh La La, No Drama, He Don't Want It :jonny5:

Loving the love for Ooh La La!! She puts out so much music though, I don't think there's any room for it on her setlist anymore. :cries:
