CupcaKKe: what went wrong?

Featured Replies

At one point it felt like she was gonna be the next big female rapper. She’s talented, got catchy beats and charisma. So what went wrong for her?

I like Cupcakke but Suki ended/rihplaced ha & is the more marketable version

She had a mental breakdown sometime around 2018 and stepped back from music for a while, hasn't released an album since etc. She also remains adamant on being independent (good for her) but this meant her reach was always going to be limited. A shame because she is incredibly talented, but she drops a song once in a while.

Doja Cat also started as meme.

I mean she managed to get herself from homeless shelters to living comfortably without compromising her sound and giving up what makes her Cupcakke - that’s absolutely a win

shes established a nice little fanbase and has industry connections while being independent which allows her to do things at her own pace

not everyone wants to be the next big thing - big enough to be comfortable and in control is absolutely admirable

As other people have already pointed out, she seems to of taken a huge step back from music. We're currently at the stage with her where we'll get random collaborations, and maybe 1 single a year if we're lucky. She's been promising her next album for years, but it just doesn't seem to be coming.

She seems to have a lot of fashion brand deals, she's happy just making money off those I guess.

Twitter "hype" doesn't translate to success I fear

at least she found her own niche fanbase

and she's still the TikTok queen with all those remixes

Nothing went wrong? Her sound was never as mainstream as Doja's. She releases music for her base of gays who love her fun, outrageous style.

I think she’s just a really private person (ironically). She also was going through a lot from 2017-2020 I remember she talked about having an abusive relationship and there were some nights she would allude to ending it all. She seems a lot happier on Tiktok, I love seeing her monthly post threatening to sue fans for remixes

She’s making a living off her passion and has no desire to be locked into a deal which will take her immediate salary away. I don’t think she ever really wanted to “blow up”. The success she has already found was a blessing to her and I think she’s very grateful for it

she has tonnes of money, clout and fanbase.

CPR and deepthroat are nearing 100m spotify streams which is instantly $250k in cash and she pockets everything cause she's independent.

Assuming she got 100m streams from all other platforms together, she collected around $1m from just those 2 songs  (including pure sales)

She's doing more than fine

Oh wow and that's just by creating a stupid meaningless song :deadbanana4:

Anyways, she's smashing on TikTok at least. I wonder if she changed her sound, would her TikTok fans be disappointed?

Tbh I don't think anything went wrong. She's a very successful independent artist :michael:

Doja never had explicit songs like Cupcakke has :toofunny3:  She never felt like the next big female rapper lol ever ever. She was always as big as she could be considering her content. Very niche artist.

She was a walking meme and she was never going to take off with those raunchy songs.

Nothing went wrong; she's where she wants to be

Was fortunate enough to meet her a few years ago after her show, she was so lovely and down-to-earth

btw i meant $250k = 100 million Spotify streams.

she was very niche and a lot of her antics screamed attention seeking.

In 2018, cupcake announced that she was a millionaire. CPR blew up after 2018. She probably has a network of $3m atm
