No. Who cares. It was from a different time. If anyone’s triggered by it, they need to seek therapy because it is 17 years old.

A bit. She tried to change the narrative with "its saying don't change yourself from who you are like dumbing yourself down for men" but when it initially came out she knew what she meant

Still love this bop

Yes, but we need a little misogyny sometimes! Just look at this bop:

The Pick-Me Anthem of the century. It's an awful, awful song.

The gag is, this song make me wanna be a hoe/bimbo lol. It’s on my gym playlist and when it comes on I hike up my booty shorts.

You're more than a decade late on this discussion

But yes

Honestly, I’m mixed.  The song itself could be interpreted in multiple ways, some anti misogyny.

but the music video…. :doc:

No, those girls were terrible. Just shallow and insipid. Nothing empowering about their sexuality unlike Madonna or Janet (at their peaks). They made female celebrities look bad.

Sorry but nothing is misogynistic about calling out celebrities who misrepresent women in the mainstream media by intentionally acting clueless and stupid for money and fame, reinforcing THE misogynistic stereotype in the process.

Agree. The MV makes it even more problematic...

Yes, and she tried to backpedal years later when she knew exactly what she was doing with this stupid (pun intended) song and video. As someone already said - a pick me anthem if I've ever heard one. And the mocking of eating disorders was abhorrent. She could've just not recorded this song and used Who Knew or U + Ur Hand (both of which are excellent) as a lead single, but she decided to lead the era with.... this.

It's not. There are shallow people of all genders. Her making fun of shallow females (bc she's a woman herself therefore she could identify with them at the core of their existence) might have come from a place of insecurity but calling it misogynistic is a stretch.

Literally that was for the year 2006. The Paris Hilton peak. The media was saying to the girls - play dumb, be skinny, be sexy and you will succeed in life. :cm:

not sure who pink is but "LGBT acrobat Pink's" Stupid girls is a bop  @Bloodflowers.

This! :giraffe:

she was attacking the idea that these girls were portraying and I couldn’t thank her enough for that. It’s nowhere near misogynistic, it’s actually a very feminist standpoint from my perspective

Women have fought too hard to be reduced to what Paris Hilton and her likes stood for: being shallow, ditzy and stick thin.

And P.S. during that time a really important association that dealt with eating disorders gave their approval and praised the fact that she was giving visibility to these matters
