The same Friday last year, the #1 song got 4.6M streams, the #10 song got 2.8M streams and the #100 song got 1.05M streams

 

Yesterday, Miley was obviously smashing with unheard of streams, but the #10 song also got a whooping 3.9M streams and the #100 song got 1.4M streams

 

Did Spotify just grow so much in general or is it Miley's power? 

Spotify is growing, and more people are playing music at parties vs last year due to covid being less of a factor. 

It's both @Sept. Spotify is gaining users. But Miley's pull in streams could be giving more streams to others too.

Fair point  

Wouldn’t people playing music at parties make the streams go down because it’s one person playing music for hundreds of people? Versus those people being at home listening to music individually?

You Tube views are dropping not sure  about Apples trend.

Spotify also been auto playing music. 

Same reason Netflix is said they were losing millions of subs but at the same time having record Viewership every other month💀 Numbers are just apart of the matrix and algorithms and can be manipulated very easily. There are way more people who listen to Spotify but don’t have premium subscriptions. Spotify is just now counting all streams, they use to only count Premium subs 

Streaming is still increasing every single day. More and more people are getting on Spotify. That’s all.

Also, it should be noted that the charts where pretty stale this time last year.  If I recall the top songs were all over 6 months old (heat waves, Industry Baby, Stay) 

 

This year we have more recent releases that are competing for the top spot.

Spotify had  456M subscribers (both paid and free users) in Sept 2022. That’s the most recent public number. A year before, it had 381M. 

The change in algorithm/autoplay that happened in the last 2 weeks significantly impacted their charts.

More labels are manipulating Spotify. They don’t have any verification or quality control for plays, so it’s easy for fans and labels to fabricate streams.

 

At some point, we’ll also see other streaming companies start to wane, especially local ones, and more communities will move to Spotify/Apple Music, resulting in much bigger streams.

Nothing is fabricated about Flowers 

 

It's big on every streaming service and in sales too, not just Spotify 

Spotify gains users everyday. By this time next year, they should have 600M. If not more. 

Streaming is getting bigger every year. I wouldn’t be surprised if nostalgic hits start doing 1m daily updates by next year.

What? Free streams have always counted. Premium/on-demand are paid out differently but the free tier have always counted since Spotify's beginning.

This is a prime example of “a hit dog will holler.” I didn’t mention Flowers at all, sis, and I’m a Miley fan.

1 year won't make that crazy of a difference.

 

I think it's a change in how Spotify is counting streams.

If we look across many years, yes spotify has tremendous growth. but the growth was more prominent from 2018 versus 2019, etc. not necessarily 2022 versus 2023.

 

there are other factors at play here, and tbh i do not know them fully.

Spotify growing in developing countries market which they mainly used YouTube as their main music app, thats why some of latin and kpop songs (big in Asia) are showing big increases in streams for the last few months…

 

Auto play
