I have to say, the sudden success of the song - considering the pervious era NOT being a hit - is suspicious. Is Miley using shady BTS-esque tactics?

These streams are not that wild.  Miley has a lot of name recognition, the song is decent, and we have been starved of pop girl content.

Plastic Hearts has 2 billion streams on Spotify. It wasn't a smash but did well enough to put her back in the music industry map after Younger Now bombed. The covers and festivals built her a lot of goodwill as well. If Flowers' success wasn't organic her back catalogue wouldn't enjoy a resurgence either.

BTS level fraud is fan driven mass buying. While certain pop girls utilize tactics like this with their fanbase, Miley’s isn’t big enough to pull that type of fraud off. She’s simply having a repeak after years of hard work.

 

I mean we will never know even if true but...

Have other artists from Columbia risen since the spotify change? Why wouldn't Columbia pay payola for Bey's Cuff it which is going down on streams currently ?

This x10! It was inevitable that she'd smash after her comeback tour, from the backyard sessions to the festival stages. People generally like Miley and built a newfound respect for her over the last few years. Plus they picked a catchy, inoffensive song that would appeal to the masses.

 

You all forget that she was THE moment in 2013, but also has had a steady career for a long time outside of that, even if she wasn't doing crazy number ones. 

It's funny, as soon as you see someone else shine you accuse her of fraud.

Is she using it? Yes. Is it responsible for the success entirely? No.

 

A lot of it is organic as well.

Also, she has undoubtedly been the most viral pop girl (past stan twitter) since like Heart of Glass in 2020.
