Has Taylor surpassed Madonna?

Featured Replies

Taylor Swift has been slaying left and right. From the Hot 100 to stadium tours, etc. Records are being broken.

Is it safe to say she's the new queen of pop music?

    Yes Taylor is bigger.

  • 🤣🤣🤣   Swiftkeys are getting toooo cocky at this point.      Imagine having a cute 15 year career being compared to a 40 year old one.    Not even the sales are close

  • likely in sales someday but never in cultural impact    Madonna didn't "get lucky" because she debuted in the 80s...   you think she had it easy?

No. I excuse my delusion in previous threads saying she has but i saw the light. She didnt surpass her in icon status or music versatility. Maybe she never will. Taylor will however obliterate every single chart record Madonna once had.

No, but the writing is on the wall that she’s surpassed Mariah Celine & Whitney

No, she'll never have the same cultural impact. However she might wind up more successful. Take that as you will.

In the US? Yes.

Overall? Not yet but it will probably happen in the future.

Taylor is much younger than Madonna when she released her 10th album and she's still reaching new peaks. She has never flopped and she's not showing any signs of slowing down.

Edited by State of Grace.

She surpassed Madonna in the U.S ages ago.

Globally she’s still very far behind.

she has no cultural impact. the songwriting is still mostly for teen girls and she's just .. basic.

You guys forget that Madonna also had many hugely successful compilations and soundtrack albums.

You can’t just go by studio albums.

Madonna is not about the stats only

just imagine being global star in no  internet/cellphones era

It's too soon to say, at face value Madonna still has double Taylor's CSPC but Taylor obviously has no signs of slowing down, and with her back catalogue collecting 15m a year easily if it'll happen it will probably happen within the decade. Midnight's certainly has improved her odds.

Y’all are gonna keep saying this for 20 MORE years aren’t y’all, it never ends. :dies:  Taylor has written about a wide array of topics, not just young love, that many adults can and DO relate to. She’s not breaking sales, streaming, and touring records off the back of teenage girls alone. Enough with this narrative

Taylor surpassed Madonna with Fearless :WAP:

No but she's the only one capable of surpassing Madonna I'd say outside of maybe Rihanna :gaycat7:

Delusional. They all had massive peaks. Taylor has yet to have an album as big as The Bodyguard, Whitney Houston, Whitney, Falling Into You, Let's Talk About Love, or Music Box.

the CSPC formula is largely downplaying older artists in the long run tho

It was cute back in the day, but MJD ruined it as time went by

ot: Even if Taylor manages to snatch Madge's records (altho a lot of them might be thanks to streaming (like the recent most top10 one)

she still wont be able to even come close to impact, influence ..and even being the iconic or having the iconic moments that the later has (in fact, she is weakest there and lots of acts are above her in those aspects)

I know that. I just wanted to highlight the fact that Madonna was 47 when she released COADF (she debuted late in comparison ik) meanwhile Taylor still hasn't even turned 33. She still has a lot of time to pass her and as I said, she's not slowing down. It's definitely possible in the future.

People still downplaying the cultural impact of Madonna, I see. Numbers are cute, but historically, we’re not revisionists in the real world. You can’t take away her legacy and pretend the doors she opened have now been closed just because chart records have been broken. A mess. But this is ATRL.

She will never ever surpass Madonna. Streaming =/= impact.

No.

Globally, Rihanna has moved the closest pure records sales to Madonna out of all modern-age female artists and yet nobody on this site would say that she’s surpassed Madonna, or is even about too.

:rip:

That said, Swift has surpassed Madonna in the United States in EVERYTHING but the Hot 100 and album sales (even then her album units are extremely close to Madonna’s). Her only competition in America is Mariah Carey and The Beatles, overall, to be honest.

Well, the writing will remain just a scribble on the wall because she hasn’t come close to surpassing Houston or Dion, commercially.

Adele, as a matter of fact, is the only recent female act with an album literally on the level of “Whitney Houston, The Bodyguard OST, Falling Into You, Let’s Talk About Love”. Actually, in album equivalents, it’s on the verge of surpassing “The Bodyguard” and has already surpassed “FIY”.

Madonna got lucky debuting in the 80s so her impact was being taboo. Taylor is far more respected as a musician than Madonna was at this point, and she has more commercial success, so although people will never admit it right now eventually she will definitely take the title of biggest female artist in history.
