I’m Chart Hive, so I’m admittedly pretty invested in this being a hit. With the top 10 seemingly on lock, the moment it’s confirmed I’m tapping tf out of following it.

 

If it drops like a rock, oh well, it’’s already peaked. If it climbs by some random chance or external circumstance (eg video), then that’s just icing on the cake. 
 

Despite it being an undeniable smasha, it’’s all pretty irritating because, like you said, we could have been at this point two months ago. And with no need for actual promo. They could have just replicated the hundred and one “videos” they dropped for BMS for added streams. An official montage of the challenge to give the air of being fan-led, clique-bait clips etc. 

 

Come to think of it, a little (and I mean a little) more first week push would have seen this debut top 10. I’d have MUCH preferred Cuff It’s narrative being that it debuted top 10 and grew into an authentic smash (that has had the fighter, inescapable chart presence that it had) rather than being those flash in the pan top 10 debuts that Drake album tracks do. 
 

Alas, here we are. 
 

I 100% believe there’s mess behind the scenes, hence the delays. But her scoring hits without visuals will 100% add to the positive narrative / historical edit of this album and her legend overall.   Ironically.

She helped Break My Soul’s chart performance by releasing acapella/instrumental/remix ep/visualizer at the right timing, I don’t think it’s crazy she could do the same here.

BMS hit #1, first week sales were great and subsequent weeks (pre Cuff It going viral-viral) were solid and sustained the album's top 10 spot on Billboard 200. 

 

IMO, Cuff It is what allowed her to coast and navigate whatever drama is happening with the visuals while keeping album sales afloat. Put simply, It bought them time. A lot of time.

 

Had it not gone viral, I really believe we would have a "something else" by now. Be that the BMS video, the video for a different track, the full visual project (in whatever state it was in), or new fully promoted radio/streaming single. Something. 

 

Let's not forget, Bey is not above scrambling when need be e.g going wide with EIL after trying and failing with another Tidal release or spamming socials when those predictions came in for The Gift. With Ren, much to our disfavour, she simply didn't have to scramble so isn't.

 

We'll never know, but I really don't think this hold out would have occurred if album run went something like #1 > #9 > #25 > #50 > Out. 

 

 She had a lot riding on this project (like a huge $$$ making tour). A "flop" album  would have jeopardized all of that. So, I trust that there were multiple contingencies. She may play with those side projects, but there is zero proof that she's so uncaring that she (or Columbia) were about to let such an important project tank. 

Can this song last 40 weeks on chart  I hope it can make an appearance on the YEC.

Honestly, if it can smash by itself I don't see the point of releasing visual. Visual should be reserved for the much needed third,fourth and fifth single. AS, Heated, VG were great, but they need promo to boost their performance. Imagine B having 5 Top 20 hits this era each spending 20+ weeks.

It only needs around 500 chart points to lock a position on the YEC, which she’ll easily get with three or four tracking weeks.
