- Anyway, I was listening to Olivia Newton-John's Physical song...which was crowned as the biggest hit in the USA for the 80's decade...more successful than every single Madonna released that decade and imagine my surprise when i realize the song is only at 51M streams on Spotify 

 

- Another one is Madonna's Music. It was a huge #1 hit in 2000. It's actually the best selling physical single for the entire 2000's decade in the USA, it was the 2nd biggest dance hit of the decade in the USA behind only Madonna's own Hung Up. How many streams? 58M on Spotify. Currently Sorry has more daily streams that this one, even if that song barely charted in the USA. It's weird how forgotten it is tbh. It was the biggest hit and best selling single of 2000 WW after all. 

 

- From Mariah's 1st album which had 4 #1 hits, 2 of them don't even reach 20M.

Don't Forget About Us, a #1 hit from 2005/2006 and doesn't even have 40M streams. 

 

- Janet Jackson's Doesn't Really Matter..it spent 3 weeks at #1, her first big hit this century, lots of antecipation, it was also a huge #1 hit in 2000...and it doesn't even have 9M streams on Spotify.

The only "classic" I'm seeing in the OP is Physical though... the rest of the ladies have much bigger and more important songs.

Anyways WAGW is one of the top streamed number 1s of the year 2000.

I was shocked at how low Physical's numbers are as well! Idk how thats happened since literally everyone knows that song.

Christina Aguilera has no classics on her own.

That’s not true, Come On Over Baby had at least 70 M streams last time I checked. Come On Over is the original version of the song.

 

Also, the Video Version of Come On Over Baby used to be up on Spotify before they removed it and that had a good amount of streams too.

A tenth of those 9M are from me!!! I love this song.

 

Anyway songs with hard beats and a bit weird or innovative don't do well on streaming so Music and Janet's disco make sense. 

 

I'm also not sure those songs are classics. 

 

Music deserves so much better.

I blame this on Mariah's team. For the longest time till like the past year on Spotify, the Ultra Platinum edition of TEOM was never displayed on Mariah's main page with the rest of her discography. You literally had to go searching in the toolbar for the album along with the song. It wasn't easily accessible.

But could obvs be other factors for its numbers too

I think "Music" is a song that felt like it was going to be a classic, but then for some reason fell out of favour. Maybe the production is too minimalist and futuristic. It's probably because it had to compete with all of Madonna's previous classics for oldies airplay and streaming playlist positions and it just didn't get enough exposure long-term. "Hung Up" ended up replacing it as the go-to 'recent Madonna' classic.

 

"Physical" is an odd one. The song does feel like a genuine classic. May be down to bad playlisting. A lot of songs have amassed huge streaming numbers due to passive streams thanks to good playlisting.

The fact remains that till yesterday neither of those two forgotten “hits” have crossed 100M streams. Both stuck at 81M and 70M + 10M from other version of the song

I mean most classics that release before the 2000s won’t have amazing streaming numbers.
