Why did Fergie's "Finally" flop?

Featured Replies

After a string of 5 straight top 5 smashes (3 of which went #1 and one that peaked at #2), she released Finally in March 2008.

It flopped and peaked at #101 on the Hot 100 and she ended the era.

The final note Finalllllllyyyyyyy :jonnycat:

:lmao::lmao: I listened just for that and it didn't disappoint

By the end of the era fergie had burn a lot of bridges. Everyone started to boycott her from radio, Grammys and huge award shows. The label sabotaged her which made her depressed which is why her second album came out a decade later.

It kinda sucks, it's too much like a Disney princess song? She should've gone with All That I Got.

All of the above plus plain old overexposure. It was a long era iirc. Still one of the most fun tho :WAP: Fergie, Nelly, and Gwen, plus Beyoncé and baby Rihanna all within 2-3 years, that was amazing

Yeah because a ballad 7th single of an album that was released 2 years ago was going to be a hit :gaycat6:

The Dutchess era was done after Clumsy so her releasing more singles after that was just a gift for the fans

Because the public has no taste. They want ***** popping bops instead of good quality.

It's more Broadway show tune than pop radio. Still love it, though!

What I had no idea of this ???

Why did radio, Grammy and label sabotage her

She's still doing great w Black Eyed Peas after that

It was a bad single choice. I'm indifferent towards the song but people clearly weren't gonna make a slow Fergie piano ballad a hit.

Combine that with the fact it was the 6th single off an era that had already spawned 5 hit singles and you get a massive flop.

Also it didn't even get a music video :pool:

What? I had no idea

this feels like a song from some princess movie and not in a good way

so maybe it wasnt the best single choice

"Clumsy" was #2 on Pop Radio, it was clearly Teenage Dream of 2000s. What happened?

This is not true at all lmao. She was definitely not boycott in the US, EVER. And it was a last single. Last singles usually always flop. That album had a stream of hits

She was def still loved af

It was never officially released as a single in the US, they cancelled the release last minute. The video was scrapped.

A music video for "Finally" was shot by director Marc Webb, but never released – it was canceled in post-production without explanation

The song's a little too musical theater to work as a single. Co-signing the posts that All That I Got should have been released instead. The Tyra Show remix deserved an official release.
