Their debut had all the personality of a vanilla scented candle but it worked because it was clearly aimed at the leftover Adele fans and wine moms. After that, two things happened:

 

-The real Adele came back and Sam's services were no longer needed.

 

-They changed their image and sound to course correct, but the earlier material failed to cultivate a diehard base and wine moms just aren't that loyal

so I was being suspended few days ago because of this thread

 

But to make it clear, I have referred "they" pronoun on the thread title : Why DO Sam Smith fade

secondly, I was using "him" pronoun on the OP because they were he in their first 2 eras

Their music lately hasn't been radio/gp friendly and it's their choice. I think Sam has nothing to prove anymore. They achieved so much in a very short span of time. I just wished they scored a number 1 song in the US before their career dwindled but it's fine, they have much more accolades to be proud of.
