Artists whose artistry is overrated?

I'm not sure people understand what "overrated" means. It's not "whose music/artistry do a lot of people like/appreciate that you don't?".

The fact that most people aren't giving actual reasons as to their answers kind of points towards this as well.

There are people on this website who think Dua Lipa has great artistry

and they are correct

I kind of feel that there aren't many who are legitimately overrated, as the collective perception of an artist as a grouping of subjective opinions is kind of hard to negate.

A common answer is here Harry which...okay...I guess? But what is he rated anyway? He's not generally regarded as a musical genius or a one-of-a-kind artist so as to make his actual output/artistry seem "overrated". He's just a bit of an it-boy, and currently VERY popular. Considering he hasn't really had a solo or group song that even stands out as a modern classic (imo), I don't see how naming him as overrated has very much basis.

Olivia for sure, she’s trying to be an edgy sad teen like Billie but is just boring in comparison

ah, well, stans are something else entirely. every stan overrates their fave, even those stanning the most perfectly rated.

and young GP? I see your point but that's just the folly of youth. and are we really going to be that upset because kids think harry is the first of his kind?

yes :eli:

but also most of the publications praise him and act as if he is some rock god :dies:

i don’t think he makes bad music or anything but his shtick is nothing new or groundbreaking

I can see what you mean with that. maybe I just don't see those headlines, because I'm basing this off my general perception of him and what I see people saying about him, and generally I see more critique than praise, so don't find him particularly "overrated". Plus, a lot of publications go for the "X just performed at the BBMAs and it was EPIC!" titles even if that's not the case, but it doesn't mean that perception sticks.

Lady Gaga. She's yet to release a great album on the level of Ray of Light, Folklore, Lemonade, Butterfly, etc.

Taylor Swift

Adele

Beyonce

Lady Gags

People can keep seething over Harry and his success

This one

ATRL trying to make this basic girl happen was so funny

Azealia Banks. What is so artsy about her music? The cheap ugly ass edm beats? The amateur mixing that can't get her vocals at the proper level to fight against the loud ass instrumental? Is it the stiff, piss poor freshman year graphic art student level cgi in her music videos? Is it the lyrics in her songs about absolutely ******* NOTHING delivered in that same stilted flow. Wtf is Muscle Mike and Count Contessa? Nude Beach a Go Go?? A bunch of bullshit is what it is.

everyone saying harry when his new one is his best :doc:

the real answer is grimes :cm:
