2021 is pretty recent so you're kinda in touch with what's current. You liked Tate's new album too right?

I get obsessed with random artists from the 2000s like... If I had to talk about music to people I would have to say something like "hey have you heard this 2006 Anastacia song?" or "this Christina Milian album is so underrated" or "Look what a slutty queen Koda Kumi was" *links a 2006 music video* :rip:

Well, it's ATRL, so talking about the 2000s music shouldn't be a problem here.

I mean tea lowkey but I would love to have lengthy discussions about old music as if it was just released. Which is so not the vibe here? Idk. Maybe I should learn to navigate this place better instead of sticking to main page.

I think that some rates can help with that, and you definitely get those topics now and then, but yeah, you need to be on the lookout for them. As someone who's permanently late to the party when it comes to video games, films etc, I'm used to the feeling. Discussing things are they happen is fun, and I'm sad I missed out on the peak of the j-pop discussion from 2008 to 2014, in 2015 it was already winding down. But discussing things in hindsight has its merit, too.

oh and Allday has cut his hair like Hyunjin too and dyed it black  :jonny5:

That's still too recent for some of us I fear

Sometimes if I'm getting into the discography of an older artist, especially one who's dead/retired, I'll hold off listening to like half of their albums and spread them out over time because then it's almost like getting new releases

Like Suilen said, this is why non-MPG/modern releases rates are so helpful and fun sometimes. We were over in the Ladies of Jazz rate talking about these songs and divas like it was 1955

Damn... y'all out there getting married AND divorced.

Yeah and my advice is don't get married!! Why lock in? You can live together. You can be together. Commit to each other. Why marry? It's an old institution that feels obsolete in these "modern" times

I have to ask the judge to "allow me to give my old last name back" in a request in the divorce :biblio: it feels crusty. Like I have another man's ICK on me that I can't remove. It literally makes me sick to my stomach with anxiety seeing my last name

Can you give some examples? I would love to listen to some and maybe we can discuss. Especially the music videos, they don't do them like that anymore. Maybe a thread like „2000s music talk" could be fun.

btw do you know the band After? They have a very specific aesthetic and music that sounds like taken straight from 2006

We saw Weapons yesterday and after it was over I overheard someone say "Chappell Roan was great in this" and I ******* died. :deadbanana4:

Finally listening to Addison

The way I'm so bad when it comes to new releases

I do not know that band! Just searched them on Spotify and on the surface it seems like there's some edge to them (plus the trip hop in the bio). I'll check them out when I get home... Hoping they give Everything but the Girl vibes idk why :duca:

Some examples... Well the music video I was talking about is Juicy by Koda Kumi (thank you Graves for the discovery omg). Not sure you'll be into it tho but it was definitely an experience for me. It's J-Pop tho, not sure how much you've ventured into it but what I love about the genre is that the way they take western influence is just sooo different to K-Pop. It feels more experimental and adventurous usually  because they keep a strong regional element or that's how I feel about it. Japanese culture in general is just so rich.

Then the Anastacia stuff I was referring to is Heavy Rotation (*2008 not 2006 oop). It was something kinda new for her, more R&B than usual. It's probably more of an acquired taste compared to the others. If you want to get into her maybe albums like Freak of Nature or her self-titled are a better choice.

Christina Milian, I love the It's About Time and So Amazin' albums. If you know and like Dip It Low or Say I, the albums won't disappoint you.

Also I'm currently obsessed with the album Three by Sugababes. It's probably the most musically out of centre suggestion out of these. Their early stuff is just so cool.

In general I think most of this music wasn't even hugely discussed back in the day which is a shame :monkey:
