That LP person wrote most of Superficial and even worked on some hitomi song? An inchresting trajectory. I wonder if their own material is giving.

Okay, a sort of review. Overall, I think it's fine, I like most of the songs, though it's not a smooth listen.

 

Rolling Stone is pretty decent, we all have PTSD from Stolen Car, so anything in English is going to cause that, but another disaster was averted. I remember everyone dragging N'oublie pas, and LP's vocals aren't for everyone for sure, though I didn't see anything wrong with the song. There are some... experimental moments, mostly vocally, for example, when she sounds like three different people from Priere to Des Larmes, and that's what is throwing most people off, probably. A spoken word song was an interesting choice, but she's always been a Baudelaire stan, so... let her recite her shite. The production was also not so ordinary at parts. My favorite moments are probably the classic Mylene, Parler D'avenir and On A Besoin D'y Croire. Well, Retenir L'eau is also classic Mylene, but I prefer those. I don't really know what the consensus is here, so let me assume that people probably expected more classic moments and less experimentation? I think that her approach was mostly correct with appeasing the fans in case they wouldn't vibe with the less accessible songs. 

Went to RYM to read some Man's Best Friend reviews and I think I lost some braincells.

 

But general consensus is that the album is mid apparently. 

Once saw someone on RYM describe a soul album as being "too soulful" so ever since then I've avoided reading RYM reviews like the plague because what are you even saying

There's only this much you can do when making an album for a year with the same producer

I'm also tired of pop girls putting one obligatory disco song in every album

This is so interesting. I think her choosing to work with a DJ for the album was a blessing and a curse. On one hand he managed to flawlessly transition into her universe and the production is great,on the other hand I think she was scared of the reception, especially coming from Interstellaires, hence the nods to like...half of her career through the lyrics...you've got Desobeissance which completes the trinity: Desenchnatee - Degeneration - Desobeissance, then Sentimentale with the Pourvu qu'elles soient douces mention at the end, Histoires de fesses (a highlight) sounding like a modern **** Them All, Parler D'Avenir being Appelle mon numero's sister and On a besoin d'y croire, an obvious nod to XXL and Ainsi soit je. I think the vocals are excellent for the most part, I had problems with her higher pitch, especially on the chorus of Desobeissance, I still think that song deserves a better chorus, nonetheless it's an incredible song. What brings this album down are the lyrics, she loves to recycle a good metaphor. Imagine how tired we are of the dans le noir de chrysanthemes.

 

N'oublie pas is her most generic song and LP couldn't save it at all, but I guess the album needed it. I still think Rolling Stone is one of her best leads, no wonder she decided to release it the moment she finished the song without even having the album ready. She loves that song

i do appreciate the fact that she's been trying to work with different people, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... I think it mostly works here. If one of her goals was to prove that she could do Boutonnat without Boutonnat (I know that they seem to be on good terms, but their collaboration will always be held in the highest regard, and I can see that being a bit annoying to her), then she kinda succeded.
