This notion that artists that promote their work are desperate is kinda silly.

 

That stage is a huge opportunity to launch a comeback. Yes, she gets big streaming numbers, but that only because her songs are considered classics, and are in fact, were huge hits in the US and all around the world.

 

So including a new song in her set is a must, and clearly, she will do it.

Yeah I agree. There's just too much material for them to release a greatest hits instead. It's not sensible in any way. I think whenever we're getting new music, it'll most likely be new material.

Exactly. It doesn't seem like her at all. And she's had plenty of time to just release a greatest hits, it really doesn't require lots of effort, and she would have done it already if that's what she wanted.

It's not clear at all that she will do it imo. We've already discussed that in the past 15 years only 2 shows have included songs released in the weeks immediately prior.

 

It would be kinda cool if she does and it's somehow incorporated really well... but this is exactly my point, y'all need to give up on the idea of it being an absolute necessity cause you're just setting yourselves up to be potentially disappointed. She might not choose that route, and there are legitimate reasons why. Artists like Katy, Bruno all did their show without performing new material, despite both of them being promo queens at the time + their labels were very keen on getting hit songs. Gaga did Million Reasons which kinda qualifies, but thats another perfect example of a low energy bomb section in an otherwise amazing show when she would've been better off performing a classic from her discog.

 

This is a way bigger deal than her just bagging another #1, which she is probably going to get anyway. It's more important that the show is a legendary endorsement of her career and gets people hyped for the next world tour.

Ofc but Rih is a special case here - I can't think of a past headliner that was coming off a hiatus / hadn't released music in 6-7 years when they did the SB ? Except maybe for artists that were veterans, legacy acts

Yeh fair point - I wouldn't be mad at all if she did it as long as the section flows well with good energy. I want a bold + impactful comeback as much as anyone else, but it's a risk to perform new material there. Like you said on the last page, 60-90 seconds of a new song would be cool. To be honest, I wonder if she will perform any song in its entirety anyways.

yeah, I definitely agree that if she does a new song it shouldn't be a big part of her set. I agree she probably won't do any song in its entirety - neither Beyoncé or Katy did (I think?)

I personally prefer to listen to a new song in the SB. Not for promo, just for emotion to the fans. A few seconds at least.
