What? Familia was still a massive disappointment. Hence why they had to push the collab to get it off the ground.

Also, the reason why they were going to drop her was because she had spent all that damn money on the promotion of the Romance the album. It underperformed, she wanted a bigger budget for Familia. The label advised against it and let her drop during the pandemic. She had a 5 album deal and the label saw that her popularity was waning.

Hence why they pulled hella dates from her tour. She realized this and got her people to reach out to Selena to pull some strings to get her over to Interscope.

Famila came out after pandemic ..there wasn't a tour …multiple labels bid for her…and yes famila did flop but still produced BAM BAM which was top 2 song for epic that year behind future and was nominated for a Grammy only 2 other artists got nominations lol.

Now back to Normani. There's only 2 options …1: there isn't a label Change or 2 she's independent. No way she's recording new music if she's signed to a new label there would be an announcement.

Independent is her best bet …with dopamine not doing well they aren't gonna invest in her ….so there's just no point. Labels aren't signing people right now unless you are a huge influencer with huge following or your streaming numbers are huge.

hope there is new music by June.

Kehlani is kinda on her own lane and not fully signed to Atlantic BUT if I were Atlantic I would want to break Normani in before her single and album era by getting her a placement on Kehlani's album (then the label announcement comes around then).

Also i don't mean this to sound like Atlantic controls Kehlani but they can influence her with the fact Normani is her friend. It's kinda a no brainer to finally do a collab and maybe a video with her especially if one of your labels seems interested in it.

So I would def watch that side of things. By May, we'll definitely know something finally.

Jive is still hiring A&R's it seems so i'm not sure when they will be actually functioning as a label… praying we get some info soon🙏

If I was advising her I would say I think she should embrace the alternative R&B/trip hop lane which a lot of Dopamine was close to and go with a smaller but prestige label like Young. Book sessions with James Blake (who adores her), Jamie XX, Koreless, and if she can afford it Elvira who did Addison's album. Minimalist but striking visuals which she could do in her sleep. Festival dates which I can't imagine she would not be able to book and an international club tour (200-500 sized venues) which I can't imagine wouldn't sell out.

It's rare for labels to sign someone who doesn't have an audience already on social media or significant streams. But Normani is not in that boat at all, she is already a big name who has had hits like The problem right now is that hitmaking period seems to be past and she is a more niche artist now, but she still got millions of streams for her last album. She could absolutely sign with a smaller label with a smaller advance. It just means the dream of being the next Beyonce with a private jet lifestyle might have to be put to the side. But she can 100% still have a viable career in music and make decent $$$ if expectations are adjusted. Something like Tinashe's path post-major label is very viable for her. Tinashe put out a ton of music despite not getting a hit for years. Is it as glamorous as performing on the VMAs and charting on the Hot 100? No. But you can still have a career. Her album was actually good and well-received by critics, she has credibility.

I like this. If she wants to truly be in that Dopamine world/lane fully, I think this would be the correct evolution.

All I'm saying is that a label isn't paying for studio time if a deal isn't signed. If a deal is signed we would have known about it even if they are putting things together …hits daily double…rolling stone …billboard..one of them would have announced.

Her being in the studio now means she's doing it on her own. Which is probably best …that's probably why she is saying she feels no pressure and having fun

but khris riddick tynes is rolling in hot after "folded" and kehlani's stuff so idk if she's paying for that on her own.

Yeah that's true…you could be right

At this point the focus should be the music and her figuring out her sound. Once she's more consistent maybe a major label will want to sign her if they haven't. People are focused on the wrong thing …the music is what she really needs to figure out because as much as some love her first album it just Didnt have HITS

I agree. Every song you mentioned had potential! Candy Paint wasn't mixed properly though for me to enjoy it as much as I want to. I still like it, it just needed adjustments for it to be hit potential. Lights On definitely is a standout for me and should have been pushed

Like if Candy Paint wasn't going to be correctly mixed, All Yours would have been good enough for a urban radio single with a remix eventually (just toss doja or sza on it).

Then, Lights On needed a performance concept video (like a Vevo performance).

I'm not sure why it's rocket science to her team to arrange basic promo and push like this.

Been thinking about this recently and I don't think she'll get booked for festivals without a solo tour first. Even if it's a small one. Why would you book someone for a festival without a clear demand?

First of all the Pandemic was still in effect. She released her lead Don't Go Yet in summer of 2021.

For which didn't help it because even with all those radio deals and playlists still never managed to crack the top 40 on BBH100.

Although she may gotten a Grammy nod it was ONLY for Bam Bam which was a collaboration with the Grammy darling Ed Sheeran. Also the pop genre (and pretty much every genre) was weak that year. Hence why Taylor won back to back for AOTY.

Bam Bam also only got in because 2021 didn't really have many Pop collabs that did anything.

well she's booked for one on juneteenth:
