Normani

A smash song is a smash song. Whether it's fast, slow, R and B, or Pop. I think when people hear the whole song and see the video hearts will change. She's probably coming for a Wild Side sized hit, and honestly that would be great.

I personally don't care about what those Twitter trolls say. They only are doing that because they know they can get a viral tweet a Normani's expense. I personally don't get the whole "dated" critiques when this year the number ones/top 10 this year have been nothing but 2010's and 90's sounding music. I mean let's be honest Ariana's last album literally sounded like Mariah Carey's Music Box and Beyoncé isn't making anything too experimental in fact she's doing straight Heartland Pop/Country from the 2000's. I mean even Kanye's music sounds like something from The life of Pablo meets Watch the Throne.

To me the snippet isn't the most exciting but it sounds more interesting than whatever Selena just put out (which also sounded like a song straight of 2018.) I think the hate is just coming from the fact that it's a month away plus slow songs aren't really common in spring/summer. But we have to remember that Wild Thoughts and Boo'd Up came out around/got hot during the spring/summer so there is still hope.

Might aswell ask if she sings in the song lol. Unless the song get Fair's treatment Normani won't come out with a comeback single without a mv

Those songs have memorable, iconic, melodies. 1:59 is very choppy and cuts in and out. Normani loves this type of song for some reason. Wild Side & Waves are a bit choppy and empty too (it's like an alt-r&b sound?). They aren't smooth songs like a Boo'd Up and Wild Thoughts which are closer to "regular" r&b (wild thoughts is pop crossover though).

Fair was the first time she made like a truly smooth r&b song with a strong melody. The rollout was just terrible and it should have dropped with a (good) video if they seriously wanted it as a single.

I do agree that it is a dumb decision to come back with something this speed after the way everyone reacted to Fair. People have been wanting an uptempo from her so it's just common sense to release what people want after such a long time of being away but I'm not going to do too much. I have to hear the full song myself. No offense to anyone else's ear but I think I have a great ear and I need to hear the song in full before seriously complaining

A lot of people release a new song/single the week right before or the week of the album release so it's not going to be like this is the only thing we're going to get either.

Writing a song off before you even hear it is crazy. I don't understand the issue really. We should all just be happy she's releasing music. That's all I care about at the end of the day. Besides, I realized this year is shaping up to be a lot less competitive than last year in the R&B department. If the music is good, she'll be fine.

I think everyone needs to accept that she doesn't want to release uptemptos and no amount of public or fan pressure will change her mind on that :rip: I'm sure the album will have a few of them, and maybe we'll eventually get one uptempto single, but she literally hasn't released an uptempto song that wasn't a feature or co-lead in almost 5 years. It's pretty obvious at this point it's not the type of music she wants to focus on anymore, so I think everyone adjusting their expectations will stop this perpetual cycle of questioning and disappointment whenever she teases another midtempo or ballad.

And for what it's worth, the reverse of this advice applies to her and her team too: I hope they've accepted that her preferences go directly against what most of her fans and the public at large are asking for, and that her commercial success is likely to suffer as a result. If her team is aware that her releases will probably have a niche following, at least for the first while, that's fine, but I worry they want it both ways and will start delaying and cancelling things again once this "yet another R&B girl" plan inevitably doesn't lead to smash singles and a huge debut album.

A insider on Pulse said the song is hot and the album is scheduled to be released on May 17th.

She knows ppl want and prefer uptempo from her, she clearly did not want to go that route. She understands there will be disdain since she's going for the sound she wants to. If she cared, she would've released something uptempo. she made this album for herself and she's stated that. Ppl forget her artistry was never hers for years. Now that she has the opportunity to make music she has always loved, of course she'd take advantage of that. She's spent so much time searching and curating a sound that she loved because she was deprived of that for some time. ppl want uptempo because they love uptempo or because of how well it was received when motivation debuted. Please just be mindful. The way some things are said especially as her fans can be discouraging. You do not have to listen nor support the things you don't like. just be mindful.

Well an April 26th single followed by a May 17th album would certainly dispel my fear that her team is too worried about instant commercial success :deadbanana2:

I think her team understands that people want the album now so the single performance isn't the focus which I am fine with it. As long as we get the album

Yup, I've been pushing for this for like 3 years now. They need to just drop the album, stop worrying about instant success, and either let the album become a slow burn success or just let it be the foundation for her to build a proper fanbase (which you can only do if you actually release music!!) that a second album will benefit from. I'm just pleasantly surprised that they might actually be doing it.

That's exactly what I think their approach is. Instant success is not the focus right now, and I'm happy about it. She has a lot more to gain by releasing quality music she believes in (an actual fanbase) than trying to get a quick smash hit and become a faceless artist

Yeah and @sam.teas also said they saw two dates pertaining to Normani. One was April 26 but wasn't sure what the date was for. So makes sense April 26 is the single and that second date (that was also mentioned to be Q2) would be mid May. Makes sense tbh
