I've always thought it was also part of the reason of why she got snubbed for HOG, you know, a lot might have thought ASIB was a fluke + was a music role fitting a singer, then she got acclaimed with a Ridley Scott drama without music managing to still have the best Rated R drama box office result of the last 3 years, yeap, somebody is definitely mad and think a singer has no business getting those high profile roles, especially when Gaga makes it looks so easy.

I think it had more to do with the Academy Body as a whole not liking HoG, which usually happens every year one way or another. But no doubt this could have been part of the equation as well. When you read those articles citing anonymous voters every year you see certain patterns. It took them so long to recognize Leo because "he was hot and successful, why should he have it all?" You can read similar stuff for Bradley or Amy Adams, too.

Exactly, it was definitely part of the equation imo.

I do wonder why she took hear earpiece out after the bridge though, you can tell as soon as she did she immediately went flat the rest of the performance lol oh well

HMH perfomances always bothers me bc I think she has some difficulties singing it idk. The tone she goes for sometimes doesnt always sound like the safest she could chose and at some points the delivery is unpleasant TO ME. But then again she’s Lady Gaga thus doenst like playing safe and im used to it.

 

Still a great vocal perfomance nonethelesss.

maybe this is a delusional take, but i honestly think a lot of voters felt gaga had it in the bag so they threw their votes behind a passion pick, like kristen. a lot of the voters are also voters of the bodies that nominated her everywhere else. i know this fanbase loves to always think of the worst possible scenario, but i don't think there was any ill will towards her.

If QT‘s next film really is centred around Pauline Kael in 1970s Hollywood it’s kind of a scream because Gaga would fit the role (looks wise at least) much better than previous QT female leads like Uma or Margot would…

I think it comes down to the fact that like with Andrea Riseborough this year, highly strategic last minute campaigning targeting major stars and their networks is highly effective and perhaps even more so now than the traditional route of expensive press or precursor success or y’know even having your movie seen at all  

 

It’s those last minute pleas and private screenings for Kristen Stewart and Penélope Cruz that sealed the deal for them and shuffled Gaga out of the running.

Law Roach tends to Outshone his clients (except for Zendaya) and will just make it about himself. This is a red flag for Gaga, especially when she values her privacy and careful planning.

Gaga would be a perfect fit, but she currently only does a movie every 3 years. Doing another huge movie right after JFAD wouldn’t fit the pattern.

this makes a lot of sense, tbh, and i can see this being true. the penelope cruz nom was very random.

If it was a shot at leading a Quentin movie — especially his last — 100% Gaga would go for it without question. She was talking about how she dreamed of being in one of his movies way back when she got him to lend her the ***** Wagon for the Telephone MV. It would honestly be too much of a full circle moment to ever be reality but it’s nice to think about. This would be like the perfect 1-2 punch after Joker.

Anyway, as Pauline was in her 50s in the 1970s I could see QT reuniting with Jennifer Jason Leigh for the part.
