Music used in film will always have the upper hand over opening/end credit songs(with very few exceptions) Maybe Rihanna's song would have had a chance if it weren't because of Angela's supp win. Oscars like to spread the love and like to reward a lot of work(yes, there are sweeps but that doesn't happen every year) and if Angela wasn't a frontrunner for her category, then yes, maybe they could have seen Rihanna's song as a way to reward BP and as a tribute to Chadwick. However, that's not the case. I don't think HMH ever had a shot, Oscar voters are generally very selective about awarding someone their 2nd Oscar in a category and this song just isn't it. It's not by any means a bad song like some of the OHMHH say, but it isn't excellent either. If nominees can win big categories for Best Actor in their pajamas at home, there's no reason Gaga couldn't theoretically win. BOS isn't even the biggest category of the night. It's kind of embarrassing how easily Monsters run to discredit the work of their own fave. In the end, it's actually really cool that Gaga was attached to an iconic behemoth of a sequel like Top Gun: Maverick.
