Black Panther 2 has just 4 years gap and it managed to have some Oscar buzz, most important Angela Bassett Oscar nomination, although some claim it's more a career nomination, I can't say because I haven't watched it.

Angela Bassett is fantastic, looms large over the entire movie and is the emotional lynchpin that makes the whole ‘Shuri as Blank Panther’ gambit work, and her key scene that is being used for awards shows is a towering showcase for her, and arguably the single best scene of any of the BSA nominees - really only Kerry Condon and Stephanie Hsu have moments that match.

Both are at their best when working with Gaga so I guess it doesn’t matter but BloodPop seems to be closer to her than Redone ever was, they love each other and he took her out of a depression event so yeah, I’m forever grateful for him. 

Also I think people are focusing too much on FAD being a CBM when the Academy has already massively embraced the first Joker film with 11 nominations (the most that year) and awarding Joaquin Phoenix Best Actor for a villain role that seemed pretty definitively played only a decade before (a performance so defining that itself broke ground by winning an Oscar).

 

Considering FAD is taking major creative risks, if it pulls off the Liza Minnelli 70s musical angle well, I can definitely see the Academy responding in kind. Especially now we have 10 fixed slots for Best Picture and and a membership that seems open to nominating blockbusters, sequels and CBM in above the line categories. It’s not the first time populist movies have had success at the Oscars, and it tends to go in cycles with how open they are to rewarding them, but right now unless the movie bombs, there’s really nothing to suggest it will be ignored during awards season just because it’s a sequel.

Just thinking about how 1000 Doves could have had a cute pandemic-themed black and white montage video of frontline workers doing their thing with all the proceeds going to charity. A missed opportunity I fear.

Yes and it was totally absurd that reaction considering it was Gaga first acting experience and it was Lange decision to leave the show, a veteran actress of her caliber being that petty over a newbie cast was seriously embarrassing, well I'm glad Gaga ended up friend with Kathy Bates (a superior better actress than Lange and I guess as person as well) and that they're still in contact.

 

However (also recently) in relation of the JFAD cast, I often come across people from GP praising her performance on AHS, it has aged well.

People forget how incredibly influential The Dark Knight was was for the CB genre and the modern blockbuster in general. Not only did Heath's win break ground for the genre, the fact that TDK was snubbed out of a Best Picture nomination when it deserved it so much forced them to change the rules from 5 nominees to 10. A couple of years later they would revert back to the current anywhere from 5 to a max of 10 rule which hinders on the minimum 5% #1 votes in order to get the nom.
