Hey Girl is an amazing song, the production is immaculate and they sound great. Also the melody during the bridge and the outro is heavenly.

Hey Girl isn't a bad song, far from it actually, but it's also kinda forgettable in a way? The bridge is definitely a highlight and production is cute though. I was disppointed because both legends could have came up with a better song + I wanted a scream fest classic à la Shake It Out.

This is such a weird take, I'm looking at the track list of Joanne now and I don't have a song that I really dislike yet still I can't get into the the album as a whole. It's like a reverse "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" expedition. :gaycat6:

The way Joanne's production will never sound dated like her other studio album in 10 years from now is kinda ? when you think about it

Imagine if John Wayne  became a hit as she wanted it to be...the era would be very different

Joanne’s production is horrible because of BloodPop. The random screaming and yelping in the background of every second song :deadbanana4: The “soul” of the Americana theme was sucked out of that album by BloodPop’s heavy handedness.

There’s a reason why ASIB stomped on Joanne. The butchering of Mark Ronson tracks by that hack :rip: I wonder what Joanne would’ve sounded like if it was a Ronson project.

Agree with both of these takes tbh. Hey Girl is one of the worst songs on Joanne, but no song on Joanne is that bad... The album as a whole is very cohesive and a solid body of work.

1. Born This Way

2. Chromatica

3. The Fame Monster

4. The Fame

5. Joanne

Definitely agree with this. I'd pay to hear what Joanne sounded like before Interscope brought BloodPop in to "bring it into the modern era" or whatever :rip: I still love Joanna and I'll keep defending it but the production truly holds it back.

Joanne is abhorrent.

A stain on her career I’ll never revisit and nobody will remember in a positive light.

Even the few good songs (John Wayne + Dancin’ in Circle + PI) are clouded with the stench of that album and era as a whole.

A silver lining of the era was the Bloody Mary performance from the tour.

This :deadbanana4: It sounds so watered down and led to the album being one big identity crisis. Parts of it trying to be legitimately "authentic" and reveal a different side of Gaga, while also trying to appease her pop audience and radio. Easily her most confused album. :deadbanana4:

He was definitely brought in to modernise it (to its detriment). His production on Dancin’ In Circles works… but why is he on tracks like Joanne, Diamond Heart or Million Reasons?

I’ve actually always wondered if Ronson was pissed off by BloodPop’s involvement in Joanne. His playing of the Perfect Illusion demo may have been some subtle shade to BloodPop’s tinkering with it. It’s clearly the better version even from the LQ play here.

Joanne is likely her worst studio album, not because she switched her sound, but because she didn’t switch her sound enough. You can hear a raw, analog and artistically driven record in there. Yet it is watered down heavily in the production, possibly due to BloodPop as others have mentioned. This can be especially seen in the first half of the album. Many fans find songs like JW/DIC as the saving grace of the record but I see them as traditional pop songs Gaga has already done before in a much better/more authentic way. The second half of the album explores a new sound, which I like in some areas. Sinner’s Prayer is raw and great, both lyrically and production wise. I also don’t dislike Hey Girl as much as others. Sure the melody could’ve been more dynamic but the production is honestly solid and the outro is cool. Just Another Day is also one of the strong songs on the album, it’s so pure and you can hear happiness in Gaga’s voice. I didn’t get this in the rest of the album, unfortunately. It tried to tow the line between mainstream pop and a more stripped back/Americana sound which just left the end product as half-baked and less inspired than her other albums.
