    • Dreams: When Bey dropped Renaissance she said, "Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world." Dorothy adventures through the dreamland of Oz, on a pursuit to return home. The RWT itself includes multiple images of Beyoncé in a resting state (projected visuals, bed scenery, etc). She even includes that brief riff of "Sweet Dreams" right in the middle of "Alien Superstar," which is just after she appears all cozy in an upright bed.

    • Staging and the Emerald City: The Wiz's Emerald City is identical to the RWT staging: a big circle that people party and dance around. As a product of the 70s, its vibes are disco dance party, much like inspirations behind Renaissance. Unlike the 1939 Wizard of Oz which features giant doors, the entrance to Emerald City in The Wiz is a circular vault, much like the backdrop of the RWT stage that morphs and opens and closes throughout the show. Also, Bey's projection screens showing the live feed of the concert are circular as well.

    • Live Feeds: In Emerald City, there are little walking cameras that film the locals as they dance and pose, just like the cameras do throughout RWT. There's even a moment where RED is the color in Emerald City (iykyk) and it looks quite similar to Bey's performance of AHAP.

    • A "Friend of Dorothy": it's well-known that LGBTQ+ influences are the backbone to the Renaissance album and tour: Uncle Johnny, the ballroom scene, Kevin JZ Prodigy, Kevin Aviance, Ts Madison, Moi Renée, Big Freedia, etc. For many decades, being a "friend of Dorothy" has been an indirect way of sharing one's sexuality, most commonly for gay men. Diana Ross, Judy Garland, and the character of Dorothy Gale have all fulfilled the role of icon for the queer community.

    • Trumpets: The horns that herald The Wiz's announcements are the same horns that introduced Bey at Coachella, so if you thought I've been pushing it with this analysis, know the queen has roots with this musical.

    • Bey and the Wizard: Both are entertainers who have learned how to dazzle large populations through smoke and mirrors, doing so with such great success that many people start to think they are superhuman. RWT includes a myriad of images of Bey as a robot, there's even one green robot image of her that looks a lot like Richard Pryor's Wizard. A lot of ways to interpret this; personally I see it as her way of acknowledging her nonstop work ethic can make her feel like she operates like a machine, but she still wants to remind us that, like the wizard, she's merely a human with lots of tricks up her sleeve.

    • Colors: In Emerald City, the wizard dictates the color of the moment; starting with green, then red, and finally gold. All three colors have been heavily featured in the Renaissance tour's costuming, but no color has taken precedent over silver and chrome. Now everyone knows about Dorothy's ruby red slippers, but in the original novel (and in The Wiz) Dorothy's slippers are silver! No matter the color, what have those slippers always symbolized?

    • Home: In her birthday wish, Beyoncé asked for her attendees during Virgo season to wear silver. She said, "We'll surround ourselves in a shimmering human disco ball each night, everybody mirroring each other's joy." Not only does this feel like she's recreating the disco party of Emerald City, but her way of creating "a safe place, a place without judgment, a place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking, a place to scream, release, feel freedom" (quote comes from the album's inscription). She's creating for us a home, the home we all deserve: to be free, to be ourselves, to share love and joy with one another. This especially rings loud and true for POC, LGBTQ+ folks, and any population to endure systemic oppression.

    • Home (cont'd): At its core, The Wiz is the story of a journey, where in the end we're left to understand that what we seek out to gain, we've always possessed within. Sound familiar? "We go round in circles round in circles searching for love. We go up and down, lost and found, searching for love. Looking for something that lives inside me." Scarecrow always had a brain, Tin Man always had a heart, Lion always had courage, and Dorothy, like us all, always had access to home. As Glinda says, She "always had the power […but] she had to learn it for herself." It's a journey for us all, and I imagine each of us in the Beyhive are at different points in our individual journey, but realizing that our sense of love and home can always be found within the depths of our own souls is my major takeaway in the aftermath of this life changing album and tour.

Do you guys think this will be a CC show or a post ST career halftime show?

Uhm what if it's like a Renaissance like maybe 20% and Cowboy Carter 70% and Act III lead being 10% 😍

LITERALLY!!! And in The Wizard Of Oz, outside of the Psychic's shop there was a sign that says "The Crowned Heads Of EUROPE - Past, Present, and Future"

And we were all wondering WHY the Renaissance Tour started in literal EUROPE lmaooo!!! :deadbanana2:

I'm telling you she's been telling us EVERYTHING from the JUMP!

My bored ass sat through The Wizard of Oz just now. The scene with the horses changing color, the red one brought me back to her UK Vogue cover and the transition before Dorothy woke up from her dream was similar to the loop the sample tunnel. Oh her mastermind, she's not giving us the visuals because she's wicked yup.

I watched her 2013 SB Halftime Show and my life is still in shambles 12 years later‼️

I can't believe people were upset that she didn't perform new music, because where was "GROWN WOMAN" or "I BEEN ON" going to fit🤣

She was in full beast mode and I think Kelly enhanced the energy. It was my type of spectacle. The show was so clean and the stage was simple, but effective. She didn't even have to leave the stage, fly in the sky or create complete chaos to distract from a lack of talent.

One of the greatest performances of all time‼️

An iconic performance and an iconic moment in time!

Both then and in the years that followed, I have literally seen it being screened in bars that tyically have music videos playing... just because.

(TBH, the Hive definitely deserved to be cut a little slack for the "where is the new music" spiel before the performance. Bey's overall operation was way more conventional back then. As was the music industry at large. So, it really was the biggest head f**k when she: dropped the Grown Woman commercial without context, dropped I Been On / Bow Down snippet sans any context, and eventually went on tour...again, without context lol).

But...after the performance, I don't think any of us gave a f**k. She slayed so much!

Was that in Vienna?!

Nah, once while in vacay in Europe and another in the US.

Both times gagged me because it was SOOOOO random. Like, not even in any way tied to the timeframe the performance happened. And everyone watching was transfixed.

I just smiled and thought "this iconic bish that I stan" loooool.

That and "the Hive really are everywhere."

Cowboy Carter is not in Pitchforks top 50 best albums of 2024

A lot of their choices were pretty obscure, so I don't particularly mind it.... but I'm a bit flabbergasted Tyla is on the list.  No disrespect, but I don't see how you could say that's better than CC.

edit: Oh... And Sabrina Carpenter :deadbanana4:

Maybe they're trying to avoid Taylor and Bey both because of the crazy conversation anytime either of them is mentioned.

Pitchfork just didn't like Cowboy Carter all that much. No BNTs and their one track review of Texas Hold 'Em reads like a pan.  They barely wanted to give Cowboy Carter the 8.4 it got. I think the country genre is an obstacle with some critics.

Ah I see. I was at a bar in Vienna once in 2018 and they were playing the destiny's child medley from the 2005 world music awards

you good diva?

also where is the next levi's ad?

do we think its premiering during the game?

Yay at the Billboard list. It was the only correct pick, but we all know how these tallies can be sometimes.

Speaking of which...

Spoiler

I did not like the whole Taylor section at all. It felt like a veiled apology / explanation for not picking her for #1. I admittedly haven't read the attached articles for any of the other entrants, so don't know how in/granular they get with their "context". But I really found the whole "if it was soley based on numbers" thing quite unneccessary as they made that clear about the list in general from he get-go.

At the same time, maybe I'm being pendanic. As maybe just maybe spelling it out in black and white will let some of the numbers-obsessed Swfities finally clock that you can't "number" your way into being a great performer, innovator, and all-round force that Bey is.

I also found that part a bit unnecessary, too.  Most people on the list have sold gigantic numbers and they're readily available.  It should speak for itself that the list obviously has less to do with sales, because why would you even be making one?  Any of us could have made a list of the top 25 selling artists of the century just by looking that up.

oh trust that last section was added days ago, right after they had their weekly meltdown

At the end of the day - who cares? Thats a new title no one can take away from Bey. So let them have that, they also made sure to point out WHY Bey got the #1 Spot, and thats also easily clockable for Swift.

Talent, after all, always wins!
