Even Ms Tina talked about it though. Black is King was born after the album's release and after it was already a flop and criticized.

Hmm but wasnt it also Ms Tina who confirmed that Bey was deeply hurt by the reception of The Gift?

I do not remember that part, it's probably true too but I don't think something like that would prevent her from fulfilling her vision.

Every time I hear the ending of this song gives me chills :jonny:

I think it's like her least streamed song since I Am… Sasha Fierce so you're not getting those chills often, I reckon.

nah. if she cared about what people thought, she wouldn't have bothered with BLACK IS KING at all. that came a full year later, remember. BLACK IS KING was shot entirely AFTER the album came out.

when she has an idea and a vision, she truly pays no mind to the noise online.

As a Gift/BIK stan, IIRC, pretty much all of your takes are on the mark.

Bey conceived and shot BIK after The Gift came out. It appears it really was meant to just be the music initially and then she became "inspired" for the visuals.

At the same time, I can't be convinced that the underperformance of the music didn't spark an "oh, sh*t, I should probably do something" within her. That was quite the humbling time between The Gift, EIL etc.  Sidebar, but relevant and I will say this til kingdom comes: I will never buy the idea that Bey doesn't care about sales or is moving like any kind of indie artiste. She's "Beyonce" and very much gets that, moves like that, and navigates the commercial space to ensure her Queendom stays intact. IMO, TG, BIK, and EIL must have been the biggest "wtf is happening right now?" at Camp Bey.

She defo got her ish together and acclimated to new times (Rennie, CC streaming savviness, vinyls, etc), but I really am still annoyed by it all because the entire The Gift / BIK venture had ALL the right elements (a whole album, stunning visuals, and the bold inspiration to go all out for both). I just think the haphazard strategy behind it all as well as some elements beyond her control clipped its wings.

First things first, Bey should have got her timeline together and worked with Disney more intricately to align both films. If The Gift was dropping around The Lion King theatrical release, then BIK should have been shot, ready, and premiered in alignment with the home entertainment/streaming release of TLK. It would have seen her involvement/promo with all things The Lion King naturally flow into each other.

I'm talking about making it the surprise joint release for the home entertainment/streaming launch of the film. Also, a case can't watch one without seeing a recommendation or autoplay for the other. That was definitely in Disney's remit to do.

In Bey's defense, Disney+ was a new service at the time with a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the audience it presently has. But she equally didn't help her cause in coming with visuals a year later for an album that didn't do well.

She's better set up to thrive now with her shenanigans for the visuals for Acts I, II, and III primarily because she did the things (see: commercial tactics) to ensure the music stuck. Now, there's an anticipation and an appetite, which (for whatever reason) wasn't established for TG. Hence, the so so response to BIK.

yall see this?

the D2C tracker saw this pop up in her store briefly before it was taken down.

According to the description it's an 165 page book with "never before seen imagery inspired by the Cowboy Carter album"

a TikTok with more info: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8Nd1dB1/

If this is true, there was probably a tour coming which isn't coming anymore and she just reworked the tour book.

So she cancelled the tour cause of the flop?

If that's the case, it's entirely on her. The first thing that threw people off was it not being as tightly curated as Renaissance and from then on rarely anyone revisited it.

Streams did go up with the Bodyguard video, the Grammy nominations, the Ameriican Requiem lyrics post-election and the 16 Carriages trend on TikTok, which means people might have actually listened if she had done something about it earlier. :coffee2:

She's now for the arts not the charts….

a 27 track country album that's 1h 18mins long was a risk :cupid:

Isn't it highly likely that the tour will be act ii / act iii together? If there is a Cowboy Carter book it's likely just for act ii itself and separate to any tour plans.

If that's the case, I don't think it'll be a 2025 tour.

yes but probably just pictures/teasers

Trying not to get excited about the "never before seen" and December 13 part

It's probably just other pics from the shoots she did for the vinyls

Exactly and we know there's many more of certain sets and looks she did for the cc era since she did atleast two rounds of album artwork shoots for it + Visuals

nobody just randomly scraps a tour when they're already at the visuals/tour interlude stage like bfr :rip:

this is either just something like the lemonade book or a kind of making off book for the album/trilogy/halftime show. my bet is on something in that direction

Did she release a book for Ren? The Lemonade one looked great. Wish I got that one.

With no Mufasa song confirmed, Pharrell was either hinting at a LV collaboration or songs produced by him for act III when he said "just get ready" back in September.

I'm just glad this holiday season there'll be an opportunity for her to remind everybody that she's still the best mainstream singer around. I have a feeling people have a different idea recently.

Nnnn the book being a US exclusive… like what is the reason :coffee2:
