As a HUGE fan of The Gift and a Spirit stan (lol), I would have loved to see her involved musically in Mufasa. Another swing of the bat when it comes to TLK, so to speak. 

 

BUT...

 

I equally like that this keeps the Acts thing tidy. Randomly dropping something tribal/Afrobeats sounding amidst the current Cowboy-preumably-into-Rock thing she has going on now would be...odd.

I've been editing and tracking my own version of her halftime show, and I must say- if the NFL follows their usual 13 minutes+30 seconds runtime, I'm cool with 4-5 heavy hitters from "COWBOY CARTER".

 

The albums is filled with more hits and strong contenders to hold up in her discography overtime rather than duds that I could live without, but I don't see her bringing 22 of the 27 tracks alive in less than the fall halftime quarter.

Every time I hear the ending of this song gives me chills

Well today (Dec 1st) marks 1 year since the RWT film was released in theatres.

 

I guess today is the last hope for it to finally come to streaming.

Beys biggest strength has always been to read the room. Despite the quality of The Gift, people were extremely apprehensive of it. She made the right call to not create a follow up.

I really want this song to become by a miracle one of her legacy/classic songs. The universe will hear my prayer and make it happen.

I don't think she cares about the chart success or online discourse per se. I just don't think there's anything innovative to tap into for her with Lin Manuel (yuck) and she's already done the self-curated Lion King-inspired album. 

 

She never repeats herself.

Disagree. While she doesnt care about charts, she does vehemently care about perception. The way The Gift Was received deeply hurt her, you could tell. 

I think she truly wanted to give back and do sth nice for African music, and she clearly invested so much time and other resources to do all these videos.. you don't do all of that to be met with the backlash she received.

nah. if she cared about what people thought, she wouldn't have bothered with BLACK IS KING at all. that came a full year later, remember. BLACK IS KING was shot entirely AFTER the album came out.

 

when she has an idea and a vision, she truly pays no mind to the noise online.

Curating sth like Black Is King takes months of shooting and planning - from the directors, to the dancers, to the costumes, to the Art directory. Then u also have contractual obligations with DisneyPlus.

The decision to do sth in that vein was done before The Gift was even released, trust and believe.

Even Ms Tina talked about it though. Black is King was born after the album's release and after it was already a flop and criticized.
