It's interesting how on Drake's 'For All The Dogs' released half a year before CC he has these radio station type of interludes performed by Snoop Dogg, like the Willie Nelson ones on CC. It's similar to how because of writing Heated he had insight into the direction Bey was going in for Renaissance, and he used it to his advantage to do the same thing but to release his album before she did. Although he didn't work on CC I don't doubt that he knew from the grapevine what Bey was working on.

 

Or it could just be that both of them took inspiration from 'Dawn FM'. 

We don't talk about it much but Just For Fun is yet another potential HIT on this album that got away

GURL BYE  Take me back to the days where Jay Z was giving interviews saying they would never drop a collab album bc "what they have is real". Can somebody find that interview? I bet TG would've performed way better commercially if EIL never came out

It's been done. Frank Ocean did it in 2012, Janelle did it in 2013, Vince Staples did it in 2018, Dua Lipa did it in 2020. Snoop Dogg did it too. It's been extensively used by rock bands and indie artists too.

This is exactly how I imagined it playing out too lol. I remember a similar narrative being pushed about the Rena era until 'Cuff It' blew up. Some of the fonts here were calling 'Break My Soul' a fluke #1 and that Rena would be divisive among the hive because it's dance music. I think I even heard the "it's too long" rhetoric a few times too  now, all of the sudden all of ATRL loves the album and some would say it's her best/their favorite album of hers.

I don't hate Cowboy Carter, but I never thought it was better than Renaissance and that's probably the first time I've thought a new Bey album wasn't better than the last besides IASF. Even then my brain wasn't this polluted from stanning so I didn't really think about it that way.

I truly despise EIL but Summer is one of their best songs ever, at least. They legit only recorded it over the course of a couple of weeks to push the flopping tour that she only did to help Jay fulfill his Live Nation contract. 

 

When you're frantically recording an album in a makeshift studio in a stadium in the midst of your tour you know you ****** up

I still use Summer and Apeshit. Dassit.

 

I remember being in Europe when it first dropped and it making no noise only to come back to America and realize, woah, no one (fans included) wants this new Beyoncé project.

 

I went to Chicago night 1 for the OTR2 tour and she didn't perform Summer but she performed it for night 2. I lowkey still have a grudge against her for that alone

Also just a side note, and no disrespect, but there's no way in hell she's remembering all the lyrics from CC on tour. Each song is like a novel
