What do y’all think Beyoncé’s career would be like if she didn’t do the Super Bowl in 2013? I feel like her career would have declined. I think this because she was coming off an underperforming era and just had a baby, so she was on a little hiatus. The first time the world got to see her perform on TV again was the inauguration, but the lip synch happened. So, I feel as though the scandal built anticipation for the Super Bowl performance. Then once she delivered the best performance ever, she was able to sell out the Mrs. Carter Tour. The tour kept her name in the headlines and made everyone aniticipate new music. She built so much anticipation that she dropped ST & was boosted into legendary status.

 

I feel like if she didn’t do the Super Bowl there would be no ST & Beyonceé would’ve started to decline.

I’ve only had one beyonce related dream in my life. Me and her were walking together in some sort of carnival and it was giving very much XO music video. And then Madonna pulls up and wants to fight me in the middle of the crowd. Mind you I don’t stan Madge nor was I listening to her at the time so idk where she came from.
 

But me and her just started whacking at each other. And you’d think she’d be a brittle granny but no, Dream-Madonna got a few licks on me, she was choking me, I was walloping her dome, and Bey was just in the corner saying “oh my god” in her deep ass texan voice. And then I woke up

I think it lowkey saved her career. She would still be successful and a permanent A-lister, but she never would've became the Beyonce of today without it. She had a point to prove after the inauguration and it solidified her as a bonafide legend.

I agree. 

 

The image and reputation she cemented with her SB show is what made ST have the impact that it had and catapult her into this larger-than-life persona. I don't think it would've had the same effect had she not performed at the SB and just randomly released it sometime that year.

I think ST would have always been self titled, i.e a successful reboot. 

 

The Superbowl definitely helped but Beyonce was only one era removed from Single Ladies/Halo/IIWAB/Sweet Dreams/Telelphone. That legacy doesn't vanish over night. XO flopping into oblivion is also a reminder that ST even with all the hype wouldn't have succeeded if the music/lyrism/visuals didn't hit. 

 

We've seen many since drop surprise and visual albums and I think that speaks to the novelty/impact that tactic had with, or without the superbowl.

 

I remember feeling like Taylor was totally falling off globally until Folklore.

More than anything I think 4 flopping is what made ST and it wouldn't have happened without it. With or without the Superbowl I think she would of been very precious about what she was releasing and the core fan base would 

 

Even during 4's underperformance she was still reaping tons of goodwill and reputation

Yeah no, ST was basically recorded back in 2012 before the SB she sat on those songs for a year
