restrictions like these are very dumb these days seeing how easily people can set up vpns..

This was uploaded 13 years ago when it used to be commonplace, though.

The visuals must be revolutionary because the embarrassment if she drops some basic videos after all this time :rip: The pressure must be immense so I feel for her and that could be why they're held up, but the longer you wait the more people expect

It's hard to believe that with all the resources she has -money, a good team and experience- the first versions of the videos were THAT BAD.

People would have eaten it up!!

I'm trying to not think about it too much, and hope that everything will make sense once it's out. :weeps:

It never will. You know why? She has it restricted to just the U.S. for some reason. :skull:

It was only a UK single why would her team do that? Very dumb

I wonder if the film was too similar to Lemonade and BIK. BIK was great but it was pretty much Lemonade with more color and a better VFX budget (Find Your Way Back, My Power, etc.) but visually it didn't feel dynamic. It involved a lot of set stages and zooms in and outs with people standing still. If the visuals were anything like that (can't really tell from the teasers) I'm glad she kept them.

btw do you know how and whether bey is still involved with chloe? seeing her rollout and the music she puts out, it almost feels like they distanced quite a bit from one another. I really like her in chloe and halle and still play some tracks from ungodly hour, but she has become so overtly sexualized and doesnt seem to have a clear vision of who she wants to be, which is weird since bey has always been very clear with her identity. It makes you wonder why chloes career has become so messy

They definitely have her working with another creative team via Columbia because parkwood & Andrew are no longer doing her visuals. The last one they did was treat me. I think bey sharing a creative team with Chloe created an issue where their visual identities were too similar. Chloe is still signed to and managed by Parkwood though.

Yeah you're right!

But I think the theme she's touching upon on this album are so different from what she's done with these two previous projects that I find it hard to believe she'd rehash what she's done without realizing it beforehand.

I know she feels like she has to do more and more, but I would have been happy with several music videos just like she did with ST. Beyoncé dancing and looking gorgeous is enough for me. :jonny5:

I get these criticisms with lemonade film but BIK???? It was so fun, barely any shots with people just standing by around there was mostly choreo going on. DEFINITLEY her best visuals. I watched it again a few weeks ago and was SHOOK

the X factor / Idol / Star Academy era of promo was so iconic. all the biggest stars were going on the international editions to sing their songs with some random finalists and give the best performance of their life! sing like rent was due.

nowadays the biggest stars are too big for these shows (that no one really cares about). so unfortunately we get Rita Oras of the pop scene performing on them at best lol. it would be bonkers if Beyoncé, Adele, Swift etc. showed up for like... The Voice or American Idol in 2023.

The Lemonade film was FRESH, unexpected, moving and the storyline was so incredible that it all worked!

Black Is King did give Lemonade Pt. 2 with a bigger budget and better effects. Also the story was not as flushed out (due to Covid shutting down filming) and not better than Lion King story (imo) enough to really connect with people. I feel like they should have had the sub characters in Black Is King actually have a script - that would have been iconic.

I agree the story was mostly symbolic it just felt like a fun visual feast to me, I didn’t get the story until I read through a twitter thread explaining it. Lemonade was easy to get because of the poetry.

But lbr those videos are boring after the first watch or two. I could go back and watch BIK and be just as gagged as when I first saw it it’s just so much more fun

This is sort of unrelated but makes me wonder - if Lemonade didn’t have a visual, would it have better playback? I see folks here talk a lot about the music having little replay value but I wonder if we don’t blend the song and visual together to the point that we’re in that somber headspace from seeing it play out in the film?

I know that she wanted to make us hear the music with the visual for that reason (and clearly she didn’t want that for Renaissance :coffee2:) but that seemed to work for self-titled and not for Lemonade. Based on this base, at least.

The EXCELLENCE of Black is King actually comes from the story being told mostly with visual resources and not literally with a script. That's like when people ask for an actual film with a proper screenplay and actors, Bey likes being way more conceptual and that's never happening because it wouldn't be anything other than a "camp mess". :deadbanana4:

I don't think I will ever sit down and watch BIK in full again. but I revisit the videos for songs I like often.

Lemonade film I've seen at least a good dozen times, maybe more because I really was obsessed 2016-17. however I never have the urge to watch any of the videos outside of that context besides Formation & maybe Hold Up.
