The second I heard "drop dead" back in April, I knew it sounded like a radio classic. A lot of people doubted you, but I never did clap3

On a side note, now that "the cure" has established itself as the biggest streaming hit of the era, I wonder if Interscope will be dumb enough to send it to radio after "stupid song" rip (we want "expectations"!!!)

It only needs to hold onto the top spot until Sunday to go #1 on Billboard, right? Seems likely since Dracula is having bigger drops.

It needs to hold on till tomorrow actually.

"Risk It All" was at #1 last Thursday and still lost to "Dracula". I'm not gonna take anything for granted, cause "vampire" still gives me war flashbacks...

"drop dead" (130M) already has more total streams on US Spotify than "Risk It All" (118M) and "Midnight Sun" (85M), and it's currently charting above them (and "Dracula" as well) on US Apple Music.

The #1 on radio might be a label push, but the public is definitely listening to it.

Some big cities are ignoring it, smaller cities are 'drop dead' biggest supporter.

A fraud is when a song gets a big push out of nowhere when it's close to hitting #1 and then freefalls immediately. We've seen it happen a few times.

Finally Drop Dead #1

That's the common thing with country music on pop radio, they get bigger support from small stations, whlist most stations coming from metropolitan areas are more hesitant to play them.

Fake news, Taylor ain't done yet.

Ariana gaining like there's no tomorrow, HTIMYLM is certainly coming for #1 next week.

Ariana's audience numbers are really good. I think this is going to be a strong era for her on radio, and the potential saving grace for the next single.

"HTIMYLM" gains look like a final push to get it to #1, and then shift the focus to "petal".

Honestly, I'd forgo investing in "petal" and focus entirely on maximizing "HTIMYLM" stability.

On Pop, So Easy and iloveitiloveitiloveit will go recurrent this weekend.

On Country, it looks like Bailey is going to be blocked from even a Mediabase #1.

It's too indie for pop I'd say, it wouldn't blow out unless there was some huge streaming take off. I like the song very much, but it's a song that appeals mostly to the young demo.

Hope "Earrings" doesn't suffer the same fate... it's definitely the bigger hit tho and Malcolm has a lot more hype as an artist.

Edited by lomlguts

I don't think the "it's too indie for pop radio" argument really holds up anymore. A large percentage of today's biggest hits already have indie-pop, indie-soft/rock, alternative, or folk-pop influences. In fact, I've noticed a lot of overlap between Pop, Hot AC, Triple A, Alternative, and even Country formats lately. Triple A and Alternative, in particular, seem more aligned with Hot AC and Pop radio than ever before because they're often playing the same indie-pop, soft-rock, and alternative-leaning tracks. When I flip through stations, there are times I barely hear a difference between them. The reason is that many of today's biggest streaming hits fall into styles like indie-pop, folk-pop, indie-soft rock, alt-R&B, and indietronica, which can cross over into 4-5 different radio formats.
