If Closer had been able to spread out beyond the "Pop quadrant" (and Dance and Latin Airplay), it would've lasted even longer at Radio. I'm still surprised no Alternative stations gave Closer a few spins. As it is, Closer received virtually unprecedented support from Top 40. Rhythmic, HAC, and now HAC are all peaking at different times too. By the time Closer topped HAC, it was already out of the Rhythmic T 10. The peaking at different times has helped with longevity, but that also kept Closer from hitting 200 million AI.

 

On the other hand, Uptown Funk had the Pop Quadrant, Latin, Dance, AND Urban & Urban AC, Jazz,and AAA. So UF peaked 50 million higher on MB AI and 35 million higher on BB HRS. Closer was bigger than UF at Top 40/Pop, but not nearly as big in overall airplay.

My Alt, Active, Hot AC, AC, and Country updates will be back Friday Night. 

Closer still sounds fresh on radio

Yeah. Closer is probably the song of the millennium to date on Top 40, but on overall airplay it's way short of UF. 11 formats > 7 formats, and 4 #1s > 2 #1s.

How long has Closer placed within BBs Pop Top Ten? I counted 20 weeks on MB, but I don't have BB Biz to check out the total Top Ten weeks on BB.
