I think maybe Columbia would rather prioritise the other acts they're breaking through at the moment on Pop who are touring and either just about to release/just released (Dominic Fike/Malcolm Todd/Tame Impala). Seems like with CT's streaming gap it's not going anywhere so there's no point running it into burnout since she has like 5 songs smashing at once.

I know it's always been like this, but I hate how blatant the race/turnover for #1 has become. Reminds me of when labels would strategically pause and resume digital downloads of one artist to boost another.

You rationalised exactly what I was thinking. Pop That Trunk and Private Show showcase them perfectly as something fresh in the current pop landscape - bold, authentic and reminiscent of the past without being too try hard. CHARISMA. Just expansive, almost genre less fun music. Would love an album of it, perhaps in an Outkast half/half style.

Private Show is a smash hit. The second half of this album is massive. Agree that I'd like more weirdness from them - they can go bigger

Ariana's audience numbers are really good. I think this is going to be a strong era for her on radio, and the potential saving grace for the next single.

Because they're top tier performers, and for some people that trumps everything.

Agreed I think this was a clear opportunity for a conjoined track, so I wonder why she went away from that (seeing as she's done it before)

This always happens with mega #1s in the UK and US We beg and pray for them to hit #1 on their way up so that the chart stays fresh, then they unleash a new evil and overstay their welcome - A Bar Song, Old Town Road, Rein Me In, Choosin' Texas, One Kiss, Luther

It's not charting at the moment because this was the week it was due to be on ACR so it appears that way for the midweeks but will be reset in the final official chart as it's gained above the threshold. HTIMYLM and petal are locked for this week.

I believe they might be right. Streams are an estimate for Thursday, and sales counted until 11pm Thursday so the plaque award can be received on time for the reveal.
