Biden lifts offensive weapons ban on Saudi Arabia, arms sales as early as next week
It's not about money this time. They are buttering Saudi Arabia up in hopes that they'll protect Israel if Iran attacks

Katy Perry - "Lifetimes"
She needs to bring back Bonnie to write her songs for her. Either she has completely lost her ability to write, or it was never her to being with. Her lyrics have become so silly, simplistic, and on the nose.

Ingrid Andress outdoes Fergie's National Anthem; Update: claims alcoholism
That avocado/cursive singing doesn't work in real life

Omar Apollo critiques past boyfriends; receives backlash
Lol, he wasn't that attractive himself until he lost some weight and could afford a better wardrobe.

Katy Perry - "Woman's World"
The song is a gay karaoke mess, but it's better than 80% of Smile, so I guess that's something. Hopefully the rest of the record actually features some guitars. These dated Cher leftovers records don't fit her voice. In fact Cher did it better.

ATRL... Do You Consider Doja Cat A Rapper?
Not true at all. She's rapping more on her latest album, but on most of her hits she raps one verse (usually the second one) and sings the rest of the song. Even Kesha raps more, b/c usually raps both of her verses.

Sugababes shuts down entire area of West Holts Stage at Glastonbury AGAIN
I think they are trying to reintroduce themselves as current artists who there would be demand for. It's hard, because nobody really sells in the UK anymore outside of a few big names and they have no legacy pop acts outside of boybands. Your usual nostalgia act isn't doing a Boiler Room set like they did. If I were them, I'd try to get in with urban/club crowd to try re-establish their indie cred, with some collabs. The indie press would start buzzing about them and generate some interest in new music. Make it seem organic to young audiences.

Normani cancels BET Awards performance due to injury
Supposedly Tinashe, though it wasn't confirmed. It was an Usher tribute with several artists covering his songs. She did a really good job, better than Normani would have. What's funny is that she barely danced at all, since it was a slow number. Just swag, good vocals, and some chair work. Normani def could have done it, even w/ the sprain.

Taylor: no song in the top 20. Why does she keep picking horrible singles?
But you would think an album that sold almost 3 million 1st week would be ubiquitous. That's how it was with 25/Thriller/Purple Rain. Everyone knew the songs even if you didn't buy the record, b/c the music was played everywhere. I only hear Fortnight when I turn on the radio. How someone could have a "lowkey" 11-week #1 album is weird. When has that ever happened?

Normani cancels BET Awards performance due to injury
Even funnier is that her album is full of sleepy midtempos. She's not a dance act, she's an R&B singer. You can't sing anything off your album?

Normani cancels BET Awards performance due to injury
Beyonce could sit on a stool, serving looks and model poses, while the dancers strut around her and be the best performance of the night

Ice Spice's 'Phat Butt' debuts with only 456k streams
I said what I said. Literally no one in female rap outside of Nicki, Megan and a few select others write the majority of their raps nowadays. Nobody really cares about authenticity; Cardi is Exhibit A. Doja is Exhibit B. Coi Leray is Exhibit C. A host of male rappers have said and done worse than that slave line. A lot of people of just didn't like the fact that the industry was pushing this white girl. Had she debuted now, people wouldn't have cared as much b/c black women are thriving now in the space.

Ice Spice's 'Phat Butt' debuts with only 456k streams
Even worse, because Iggy was subject to an online hate campaign that industry professionals behind the scenes needlessly legitimatized before we realized Twitter wasn't real life. People are just unimpressed by Ice.

Simon Cowell: One Direction can't tour again unless all five agree due to name rights
I doubt Harry or Zayn would be so petty as to stop the others from making some money. They would get massive backlash from their fans.

Meghan T Reveals Epic Will Not Send her Music to Radio/Playlist unless a TikTok Hit
This is weird because I feel like I see random artists no one has ever heard of, with no hits, on big playlists all the time. At least Meghan has some hits and name recognition.

Should Posty do the next Superbowl Halftime Show?
Why not? He's a mediocre performer who has little to no stage presence, but he's currently in this White Guy With Guitar mode and so the straights will eat it up.

Lana on Taylor's success: "She's told me she wants it more than anyone"
So much of that is industry politics, Taylor was literally doing private concerts and filming whole documentaries to appeal to voters. But at the end of the day, I can't think of one song of hers that had a serious message, tackled a real world issue, sparked a conversation, became a real world anthem outside of her fanbase, potentially alienated an audience, spoke truth to power, amplified an unheard voice, nothing. Maybe "The Man"? "LWYMMD" was all about her, but I guess that's one? She knocking on the door of the Beatles sales wise, but the actual content of their songs shaped a generation. It wasn't just about the sales.

Lana on Taylor's success: "She's told me she wants it more than anyone"
Her music is no different than theirs. She gets that extra acclaim for writing it herself (the lyrics, not really the music), and from whatever backroom promo she does. But at the end of the day, change the pronouns from female to male and have Harry Styles sing it and no one could tell the difference. Her music has very little depth outside of being an audio version of US Weekly. Listen the albums of the Lilith Fair ladies of the 90s, or even Lana and it's night & day in terms of risk, story telling, and boundary pushing. Her last album was 31 tracks of blah, the only song with any lasting impact was the random Kim K attack.

Can Sabrina do what Tate McRae didn't?
I don't see it for either of these girls to be honest. They are too short and look too young. Same issue Camila Cabello has. They lack the stature of a big star, and their music is too generic.

Lizzo reacts to being mentioned on South Park's Ozempic episode
No, they're saying she is basically a menace to society. Encouraging people to not take their health seriously, under the guise of self-empowerment. And saying her music sucks. It wasn't really a joke at all, it was really just a dig at her. They are saying she and Ozempic are two sides of the same coin. Instead of eating healthy, people are taking shortcuts (Ozempic) or not caring (Lizzo). Good on her for being a good sport, but if she had taken offense to it she would have been attacked. So she kind of had to be.

Apple Music reveals its 100 Best Albums list
They can never just rate Taylor fairly. The always have to overdue, it and it invalidates the whole thing. Maybe they are just using her for clicks. *And FYI, the actual "pop bible" of the 2010s is Teenage Dream, anyone in real life would say that

Billboard Charts (Week of May 18, 2024)
Do her fans even own CD players? It's getting ridiculous. Her fans buy multiple copies of physical media, just for them to sit on a shelf (or in landfill). Then, the same fans stream the album. Like what's the point?

How to give subtle hints about sexuality?
The vocal fry and limp wrist is the obvious sign. Do it discreetly when you two are alone, but do it obviously and right in front of him. If he's gay he'll "know" and can privately reveal himself too or make a move if interested. If he's not gay, he either won't get it or pretend to not get it and you can pretend you were just joking.

Fantano on Radical Optimism: "A regression" "Just take a risk for once"
She needs to put out a re-release/deluxe fast, with a sure-fire hit (that sounds nothing like her album) as the next single. Maybe add a feature. That'll tie people over until she can course correct with a new album ( to be released no later than Q4 next year).

Cowboy Carter 6.8 M daily streams after only 5 weeks. Why?
Her own fans don't like country music. So they hyped her up as a black revolutionary on release week, and then secretly stopped listening to the record. Actual country music fans may have given her some streams on release week out of curiosity, but ultimately they don't rock with Beyonce. She didn't really try to appeal to country music listeners they way she did with the LGBT community for Renaissance. If anything she used them as a foil to paint herself as this victim of racism, but also a hero giving black women in country a voice. No radio interviews, no award show appearances. Just co-signs from the few country acts acceptable to mainstream (Dolly and Willie Nelson). Hype=/= streams.
